Regardless of what's exchanged in our recreational discussion here/now, The Rush Limbaugh Show will never fully-recover from the wound self-inflicted March 1, 2012.
I agree. I doubt there'll be all that much short-term impact, but I think we're now seeing the beginning of the end. The start of an erosion of his power, influence, and "mystique".
As a political independent, I don't have a dog in the fight. I was a regular listener for about ten years, mostly in the 1990s. I didn't always agree with him, but I thought his points were well-reasoned and that his criticisms of the Clinton administration, etc. usually had merit. I also found him to be witty, caring, and respectful. A great broadcaster and a constant wherever I was in my travels around the country.
But eventually, I found him becoming more shrill, strident, unfunny, and....for want of a better way to put it... "full of himself". His followers and a high percentage of republican elected officials started treating him as a god. And then from my observation, he seemed to start beleiving that he
was a god.
My prediction is that many in positions of authority in the republican party will begin to realize that he's creating some very serious damage to their brand. Damage that could be painful both at the ballot box and in their fundraising efforts.
While his comments might be red meat for what republicans think their base is, I personally found them to be offensive and uncalled for. And he's now given those in the republican party heretofore too timid to cross Mr. Limbaugh reason to go ahead, "grow a pair", and stand up to him.
