Rush Radio branding done?

BostonRadioWatch tweeted that the domain name Talk1200Boston.com has been registered by Clear Channel (acc. to another board). Perhaps they're staying conservative talk but, heavens,
letting Rush go to another station (who?) or at least are not accenting him as the focal point anymore? At least Talk1200 gets the freq in.

Now the prog talk fans can speculate that maybe they're flipping to libtalk...?

http://www.talk1200.com re-directs to Rush Radio 1200 site.
GoDaddy WHOIS search lists http://www.talk1200Boston.com site domain registered to
Clear Channel Identity, Inc.

I like "Talk 1200" better than "Rush Radio". I hate the Rush Radio station IDs. I've been listening a little more lately. I like the news cast at the top and bottom, and Jeff Katz isn't bad to go to if T&R a having a slow break for a few minutes. I wish they would replace Beck with a local show, or static.

Agreed with Govt Mule...they're pretty much forced to carry Beck (I was actually listening to his TV show--via XM 121 Fox News Channel--while driving just now; it was OK but I'm not crazy about him)

I need to install XM in my work truck, then I wouldn't have this problem. Beck is better on the Fox News TV show because that lap dog isn't on with him. I forget his producers name, I want to say Andy. He comes off as trying to hard to sound like Beck.

They expanded Jeff Katz from 5-10AM, and with him filling in for the Blazing Saddles guy it sounds like KATZ 1200 these days.

...Who does a 5 hour shift (all live) in talk radio? Only one I can think of is Howie Chizek who does 10 am-3 pm on WNIR 100.1 in Akron/Kent OH...

WFAN's Mike Francesa does five-and-a-half hours every weekday... okay, he's a sports radio host, as opposed to regular news/talk, but it's still a long shfit compared to most.

Ah, that was just the past 2 nights I think. And yes Jason Lewis does use the Blazing Saddles theme. So it's now 5-10? I would think maybe the 5 am hour could be reruns from previous day
but who knows. Who does a 5 hour shift (all live) in talk radio? Only one I can think of is Howie Chizek who does 10 am-3 pm on WNIR 100.1 in Akron/Kent OH

Even as it's an FM station, WNIR is a total throwback. It's live-and-local from 5:30am to 11:00pm on weekdays, and from 6am to 10pm on weekends. And still, they've always acted as a traditional talk outlet, never airing any "hot talk" offerings aside from Tom Leykis, which was for a few short months nearly a decade ago. And WNIR has ALWAYS been at or near the top of the ratings.

Bob Frantz on WTAM/1100 Cleveland also will host five-hour shows in the evening hours, but that's only if no sports PBP airs, which is typically few and far-between (WTAM is still the flagship station for the Indians and Cavaliers).

As for the "Rush Radio" brand, it's still working in New Orleans and Raleigh/Durham. I'd attribute the "failure" in Boston to being SPECIFICALLY on the AM dial (as CC is locked up in the market, that won't change anytime soon) as well as the nature of the market itself.

Honestly, WRKO, WEEI and WBZ all have STRONG identities and are deeply associated with news, talk or sports. You could never do that with "Rush Radio," and more problematic is that WXKS is too tied to "Kiss 107.7" for that to really work.

I don't know how or what CC is able to do in order to boost 1200's visibility, aside from taking comfort in clearing Premiere product on their own behalf. Which in reality makes 1200 no better than Salem's stint of running WTTT/1150 as a conservatalker that cleared most Salem Radio Network product, aside from Hannity and Paul Harvey.

Does WBZ's Steve LeVeille still do his 12mid-5a show entirely live?

1200 hired ex TKK (Severin?) prod Eric Coldwell for Katz' show. A local daily morning show with a name who has done fill ins nationally...something CC did not do in the prog talk days.

If you think five hours per day of Jeff Katz are a lot, you weren't listening at the right time. I heard him a few days ago filling in for whoever does the evening show on WXKS (AM). The program was obviously being fed to other stations in addition to WXKS (at one point, he explained that he was in Boston). Moreover, it sounded scripted, rehearsed, and over-all VERY well done: very rapid fire (nobody I know can think THAT fast), with no hesitation, no umms, no uhhs.

That's Premiere's Jason Lewis show, out of Minneapolis. I think he and Katz were at the same station in Charlotte at one point. We may be talking about someone doing a 5 hr shift on a regular basis but indeed you have situations of talkers doing fill ins on other shows as well as their reg shift. Curtis Sliwa was doing it for awhile--I think he had _two_ different WABC shows at one point plus would fill in for Severin on TKK at one point. Or Sliwa would have his regular show, fill in for Hannity, then do a fill in for what was then McPhee! More hours, more hours, pour them on.
I heard the Tue fill in myself.

Lewis has filled in for Limbaugh in the past, Katz has filled in for Savage or Jerry Doyle--and before he was hired by CC
to do the XKS show, Katz was a prime fill in for Howie Carr. Years ago he did an evening talk show for RKO
then got paired with Darlene McCarthy for RKO morning drive.

title montage uses Theme From Blazing Saddles at one point

Dan says that Jeff sounded scripted and rehearsed and that nobody he knows thinks that quickly....well maybe he should hang around with some smarter folks :)

according to jeff's bio online he has filled in for bob grant, jim bohannon, jerry doyle, michael savage and glenn beck on the national stage...he is also a regular host for the national show the weekend and of course before the wxks morning show he always showed up filling in for howie carr

As for RKO check out the 25-54 number Heslam mentions today in Herald-- can't say here but comparable to what 1200 was getting in its Air America days. Wow. Boston could use 2 solid conserv talk stations but it has 3.5 (I'll count WBZ as a half, for Rea)--RKO, TKK, XKS, and Rea on BZ...we need 2 stations with solid local people and some syndie. Ratings other than BZ (which is mostly for news by day) lacking for what we have.

Can I hint at least at the number RKO got? Think Yaz's uniform number. Now divide by ten...
