Rush to WHJJ

There is absolutely NO way that Rush beats a local format.

People said that about Stern as well. There would be no way he will work in syndication. People like LOCAL in the morning. Oh RLY? Stern proved that people don't care what city the host sits in as long as he puts on a good show. I don't care if a show is broadcast from Neptune. If it's funnier than anything else on, than that will be the show I'm going to tune into.

That is true of Stern, Sky; but with the info that was last available, Rush and the EIB were steadily declining (maybe because his demo is dying off, Ha!) here in RI. While it will be better ratings than what HJJ is getting now, I don't think it is going to spill over to other dayparts leaving them in much the same position they are in now

Gotta agree with Skynet. Sad for us in the biz, but my station is a great example of 'local only until 10am' working well, against a ton of competition. I also agree with Skynet (sorry it will never happen again lol) that people gravitate to shows that make them LAUGH as much or more than shows that make them mad. I based my future on that, and so far it's working. Note in this article that of the top-rated 17 talk shows in this market, I'm the ONLY local show.

Humor, information, human interest etc. Who says you have to be angry to succeed in talk radio?!

Helen just announced that Rush is going to be filling her spot, but she doesn't know when she will be on yet. Will announce it as soon as she finds out.

Helen was saying Rush starts on WHJJ Spetember 17th. Helen also said she will have to get up earlier in the day..

Hope she gets the 9am - noon slot... I can already hear the Ron and Buddy show for the first month..

Hey Buddy, welcome back, we all know you arent guilty, when will you run for office again?

Jazzy

Jazzy, I think Glen Beck can't be moved. Look for Helen as early as 5 30 to 9 am.
Poor Helen, What a mess! She has NO local news staff, no local traffic and who the hell
will call her at 7 15 am? All because of Vincent Buddy Cianci.

Well let's be fair about this. Its not WPRO's fault that HJJ doesn't have a better plan in place. If HJJ is lost than it is their own fault. However they are getting a popular show which I personally think may put them back on the map. So I wouldn't weep for HJJ to much. I think things are going to start to get better for them very soon.

Does this mean that the Armed Anglo March on the State House with Sean Hannity and Rick Adams for 9/29 is called off??

I read it Holland and thank you.

Whats Bill Geogre gonna say,, "Jesus Christ! Rush is coming to HJJ ITS THE END OF THE WORLD! ABANDON SHIP! ABANDON SHIP!"
Rush doesn't hurt HJJ, but as for local talk, HJJ is finished.
Depetro will OWN mornings. HJJ has NOWHERE to put Glover.
HJJ CAN'T move Beck, Hannity, or Rush.

I'm wondering why all these changes taking place in the middle of the week on a Thursday? In Washington, Washington Post Radio's transformation to '3WT' with a new lineup is also taking place on 9/20. I'm guessing it's because of a new ratings book starting on that date...

I've also been told that's the first day of a new book...it is kind of ironic that the date is 9/20 just as in
WHJJ's freq but someone had heard that actually Rush starts on 9/17

"But WAIT! There's MORE!"

Who can guess WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

I offer to award a HANDSOME BlockIsland.TV-shirt (http://www.blockisland.tv/bi-tv-medium.gif), size XL, to the first post below who predicts a WPRO or WHJJ programming announcement that comes true subsequent to the timestamp on this post.

"No purchase necessary."
And, yes, to claim your fabulous prize, you'll have to say WHO YOU ARE.

RE "Do I get the shirt?"

YOU MIGHT...if only for making-your-prediction before-anyone-else-could.

Over Labor Day weekend, my guests included someone who was "a suit" in Farid-era Infinity.
Apropos what-we-read-in-the-trades about Farid-bringing-back-Iman, my guest observed "it would be SO Farid."

And if you're thinkin' -- "But Farid owns WPRO. Why would he let Imus on WHJJ?" -- think back to the M.O. of Farid's zenmaster, then-Infinity-boss Mel Karmazin. Mel owned stations in New York, and he owned the Imus show, but he didn't own the New York station Imus' show was on. At the time, WFAN was owned by Emmis.

Mel figured, not-only-do-I-get-inventory-on-MY-station, but I've-got-a-piece-of-MY-COMPETITOR'S-station.
