First watch the interview (BTW Janet should be fired for "he is my buddy" reporting. Then tell me he isn't a punk: Did you hit her? "No, well at least I don't remember that, it has been a year" OMG! You get arrested for assault and you can't remember what happened? He took the plea because HER family was grief stricken! Why would they be? Because he is on trial? That dude is an idiot and a girl beater and if there is a god nobody will hire him... One final note: Real classy look for TV bad shorts and a shirt with pit stains.. Nothing but class Russ, Nothing but class.

You did catch the part where Southlake and Tarrant County did no investigation, and if you want verification of that, go look at the Star-Telegram article that covered the motion to surpress hearing. The Southlake lead investigator admitted he did no investigation. But I guess those facts get in the way of your ignorance. And did you ever think that if Tarrant County had a slam dunk case, with evidence, they wouldn't have offered a plea deal?

Just a thought. I realize logic and reason don't play well on this board.

Plea deals are offered in >90% of all cases. The only thing that varies is the punishment attached. The fact the court offered a plea says nothing about the evidence, or in your belief the lack thereof.

Never big fans of the Pugs and Kelly...........they were okay, but, nothing special. I actually switched over a bit the other day while Black and Quack went to commercial just to see what was up. Pugs, between studders, asking a few vapid questions of their guest and Kelly having really nothing to add to the confab. Just like I remembered them from KLLI days.

I think Big Dick has something in his bag but he can't really find the right platform for it. He's not sports. He's not TMZ. He's not news or politics...........a weird amalgam of the whole bunch with a strong dose of emo/Goth thrown in. Very alternative nichey with no place to really ply his thing.

But, for either, what are they actually doing for a living? Is Bob Lovell (God bless his heart) paying their salary as well for spots to cover their air time?

Dude really? Try and keep up, this is a radio forum, not a God discussion.

I know what kind of forum it is "dude".
I just think that's an ignorant statement.
I think Russ Martin is overrated. How's that for radio discussion, dude?

"Dude"

Lighten up..... Your comments are detracting from the thread's topic.

I said Russ was overrated. You lighten up. This isn't that serious.

You detracted from the thread's topic with your comments about the previouss poster's comments about God. It wouldn't surprise me to see some of this moved to the TIO board.

Not to change the subject, God-dangit... :-\

ChipK was right in an earlier post, that Rational Radio is indeed leasing the 24-hour block of airtime from MRBI. If I failed to make that part clear earlier, I apologize. MRBI is the owner of 1360, and, as they did with BizRadio in both Dallas and Houston, that airtime is leased. It's up to Rational (or BizRadio, as it once was) to do with the time as they please. Rational was a NovaM affiliate for a while, until NovaM went belly-up (hence the inclusion of Randi Rhodes, Mike Malloy and others who were syndicated via NovaM.) They also ran (and likely still run, in off hours) AirAmerica's syndicated programming.

Lastily a correction about the RMcase. His GF wanted charges dropped. Southlake provided the evidence of the incident. It was up to Tarrant County to prosecute, they did. Why? They have a NO dropped charges rule involving cases of domestic violence. Now ask yourself ,if no one prosecuted, why was Russ at a hearing to set a time for trial? Why was there a trial set? Why a plea of Nolo Contrendre( no contest). The star telegram reporter has gotten into one of those tabloid molds, sprinkled with an entertainment tonight style along with aspirations to be on the E!channel. In other words, they failed to be a journalist and do their homework.

no contest
n. in criminal law, a defendant's plea in court that he/she will not contest the charge of a particular crime, also called nolo contendere. While technically not an admission of guilt for commission of the crime, the judge will treat a plea of "no contest" as such an admission and proceed to find the defendant guilty as charged. A "no contest" plea is often made in cases in which there is also a possible lawsuit for damages by a person injured by the criminal conduct (such as reckless driving, assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault), because it cannot be used in the civil lawsuit as an admission of fault. "No contest" is also used where there has been a "plea bargain" in which the defendant does not want to say he/she is guilty but accepts the sentence recommended by the prosecutor in exchange for not contesting the charge (which is often reduced to a lesser crime). It is standard practice for the judge to ask either the attorneys or the defendant, "Is there a factual basis for the plea?" before accepting it and finding the defendant guilty.

Doggone,

Your post above is indeed correct. That said, I once entered a "no contest" plea to a traffic citation of which I knew I was innocent, but which I knew I would get convicted for. (Driver vs cop in court rarely ends well for driver.)

There are times when appearing guilty beats being proclaimed guilty- even when one is innocent.

So did Russ do it?

Heck if I know.

But I for one don't consider a "no contest" plea an admission of guilt.

It is just an admission that he feared loosing the case. Given the number of innocent people sitting in prison, I'd be afraid too.

A domestic violence conviction can mean the loss of your Second Amendment rights - that's a gamble I'd rather not take. Perhaps Russ and his lawyers saw the same thing - the possibility of a misdemeanor domestic violence conviction with all the consequences of a felony conviction but none of the jailtime. This was a smart move on his part - keep your nose clean for two years and everything gets washed away and you get to keep your guns.

As I posted in another thread, there's a football player who pled guilty to hitting a man and killing him while drunk driving. He recieved minimal jail time and will be back on the field when the season starts playing for somebody. Russ will be back because there will be someone out there that will pay him.

You're forgetting one very important detail. Russ made jokes about hitting women!

I would be willing to bet that he is not on the field at the beginning of the season. He will be suspended by the NFL.

Actually, if you go back and rad the Star-Telegram article, Southlake provided nothing. They had no evidence and did no investigation.

Ok...I don't care what he does on the air. Long as he doesn't "cuss on air, or lose the license."

Ok. I'll concede that. And that would be because the comissioner suspends him. If it weren't for that, there would be a team that would sign him if his current team didn't have him suit up. That being said, there is not a comissioner for DFW radio, so, again, if he brings the audience, the advertisers will follow, and somebody will take a chance on him.

Shame on you. You should care when he is charged in real life for stuff he inapropriately joked about on his show.

Well, sorry to disappoint you. I don't. I never listened to him because I cared anything about his personal life or habits. I still listened to Greggo when he was on ESPN in the evening, knowing that he had his problems with drugs, etc. I don't endorse what they did, but, I don't care either.
