I've been following the Russ threads for about a year now...since his arrest. I know Russ, JD, Trey, P&K and Spittle. Russ is going to be fine. He's eccentric to a fault - and plays his schtik to a tee which is what made him so good on-air....but inside the man, is a man like any other. The author of the article is a Russ hater. Seems a lot of posters on this board hate Russ, but they don't know him. I do - and while he may have been in a Toxic relationship with the woman...he's human. At last report - humans are not perfect.

Russ, if you're reading - good luck with whatever you do. The fact that you got into automtive repair is good...since cars are a passion of yours. If I again lived in Plano - I'd stop by for my oil changes and tire rotations.

Hmmmm... Considering you have been outside of Dallas, since right before the "change in Russ", perhaps he is no longer the same guy you once knew? People who become alcohol addicts often reveal clues about what they are really like.

I'm with you. I'm a Russ fan as well. I also worked behind the scenes at KLLI during the "good years". Bossman gave us some good radio to listen to.

So you know Russ better than the guys who worked with him day in and day out who are quoted in this story? Interesting.

So I listened to the recap that BDH did and it was lame. He had some hack comedian in studio with him that had only an outsiders veiw of the whole picture. BDH doesnt evenhave a total picture of the entirety of RMS at KLLI. He claimed that all bits were faked which they weren't. I distinctly remember seeing Gavins office blow up from the air bags in his office. I saw the charred office furniture and even remember Russ having LOTS of video of him and the crew blowing up stuff that later had to be taken down. Hell I was in one of the videos. So this article and opinion is somewhat biased. It doesn't excuse the actions of Russ and his legal issues or how he treated the otehr cast memebers. I just think that BDH has sour grapes because he wasn't treated like royalty by another on air personality. It's the business. Get over it.

95% of Russ' bits were fake. Or at least some aspect of it. I too used to work at KLLI for almost 6 years. And I can tell you that Ritchie's article is spot on.

Its not about being treated like royalty by another host, its more about treated like a person and an equal by management. Many days I would speak to Gavin only to have him look at his watch when it was close to 3pm. Also having Gavin run into the Aux studio to ask me how he sounded after a particular bit. There was always a double standard with Russ, and thats what people hated....He could do anything he wanted and yet we did not have the same freedom.

Come on, people. It was obvious during the airing of those bits that they were faked. They were still funny, but anybody with any sense should of been able to tell that the show was theater of the mind. Hell, Russ said that almost everyday. Here is a tip for future reference: if the bit sounds fake and the person perpetrating the bit repeatedly says things like, "This is theater of the mind" and "90% of what we say on air is fake"....it is probably fake. Think about it.

Now that so many people feel that they can talk about, where is the venom towards management. If things were as bad as people have said, why didn't anyone file a workplace grievance. CBS is not a small company, I feel safe to say they might have a rule of 2 about what you can and can't do.

Russ has never sounded like someone I wanted to hang out with, but I listened to the show, I listened to a lot of the shows on 105.3.

Pugs and Kelly say they told the truth about their lives, but not the whole truth, they haven't railed at who was responsible, that allowed Russ to run amok.

BDH wants to go on about the bits being fake. Wow, next thing you know he will try to tell me the Easter Bunny isnt real.

I'm not try to excuse Russ, but somebody let him act this way. They have a responsibility the the other workers to not have to put up with it, much less be complicit to his behavior.

Normally Observer articles about Russ get 100+ comments very quickly. At the time I'm typing this, there are only 57 comments. Either people just don't care about RMS anymore or his former audience can't be bothered to read and comprehend that many words strung together.
