Another N.O. "character" gone. I think everyone who was on the air from the 60's on at one time poked some good-natured fun at Ruthie. R.I.P.

Reading the story, part of it seems like it could have been the inspiration for Tanya Tucker's "Delta Dawn" or Helen Reddy's "Leave Me Alone (Ruby Red Dress)" although I'm sure most major cities have "characters" like her.

During my NOPD days I used to work paid details at Pat O'Brien's and got daily visits from Ruthie and her brother, Henry. I contributed many cigarettes "for later" to the tiny lady and I was amazed at the stream of invective that could issue forth from her lips when someone ired her. After one such episode, a seasoned Navy chief gunners mate exclaimed, "She outdone me! I could never match that performance!"

God bless Ruthie! Ruthie went straight to heaven and all her duckies were waiting there for her!
