All the station needs to do to stay competitive is get more in line with WXRT in Chicago.
-No AC/DC, Aerosmith, GNR, Boston, BILLY JOEL, tired Rolling Stones
-No Pre-punk classics
-Gold tracks should consist of only punk/new wave
-Keep doing the alternative music
If you notice, their cume is pretty good in the PPMs - over 1,000,000. I wonder what their TSL is. It must be pretty low, because I know that Spoon fans will NOT listen to AC/DC, Guns 'n Roses, Boston, or George Thorogood.
What's strange about RXP is that they haven't realized they just have to go straight-up AAA at this point. They're trying to be a mix of all the wrong parts of the Q and it just doesn't sound right - it's downright aggravating for any listener to sit through burned-out AC/DC or Guns 'n Roses songs to get to the new Beck. I know the station staff must be thinking this by now - the consultants are to blame for sure.
I can't help but think they'll go this direction before dumping the format.
...of course, CBS could find this an opportunity to dump K-Rock to relaunch WNEW-FM with WXRT's AWESOME AAA format and swap Fresh onto 92.3.
WNEW-FM would launch with a stellar reputation, strong brand, good 25-54, and opportunity to excel in billings and ratings. It would also make huge headlines like CBS-FM's return did - literally millions in free promotion.
I'll never understand...
