Ryan Seacrest to take over for Dick Clark

Re: What's Fox gonna do without Seacrest?

> However, they must keep him for AI.

They don't need to keep him for AI because he plays absolutely no part in the success of the show. Whether it was him or Brian (the one Ryan "made sure" was removed) hosting, it wouldn't matter. What's Max Headroom up to these days? LOL

Yeah! And what's with that stubble Seacrest always seems to have on his face as each AI season unfolds??!! Have you ever noticed that? The season starts off with him appearing clean-shaven...and then as the season unfolds, he starts in with the "stubble/pseudo-beard-thing".---And how about those God-awful clothes that he wears?!

Geez!!

For the love of all that is good in the world...Ryan Seacrest? That's a bit like saying a Yugo is taking over for a Cadillac in the quality department.

Wait, that may be an insult to the remaining Yugos in the world.

What is this country's obession with Seacrest? He's barely tolerable in his best moments and utterly grating the rest of the time. His talk show was a train wreck that made Chevy Chase's show look like Merv Griffin by comparison. Heck, he managed to make The Magic Hour look good.

I'm not suggesting that facing the reality of replacing the irreplacable doesn't have to happen. It does. ABC needed to decide what to do with the franchise. But Ryan Seacrest? There's no one out there whose claim to fame isn't introducing a gaggle of karaoke stars and a distinguished panel of seat warmers whose sole purpose is to drink Coke to bring in the ad bucks?

The first year Mr. Clark isn't involved in the show is the year I watch something else.

Re: What's Fox gonna do without Seacrest?

On New Year's Eve (a Saturday this year), Fox will probably show a rerun of "Mad TV" (airing in it's usual Saturdays 11 P.M.-12 Midnight EST slot) and end network programming just before 12 Midnight EST.

Chances are, NBC will probably show a rerun of "Saturday Night Live" (although didn't they do a live show once in the late 1970's when New Year's Eve was on a Saturday night??), while CBS will probably, as is usual for a Saturday night after 11 P.M. EST, let the local stations fill that hour.

It could be that Dick Clark (with Ryan Seacrest) could be the only New Year's Eve special on broadcast television in most of the country (although in some cities, a local station affiliated with a network other than ABC may carry live coverage of local New Year's Eve events in their city----I know that several times in recent years, WBZ-4 here in Boston has delayed David Letterman on New Year's Eve to carry live coverage of First Night, Boston's annual New Year's Eve celebration.

One year I was at a New Year's Eve party (I think it was 1997 going into the year 1998) and one of my relatives there turned on a channel with coverage of the celebration. Normally we watch ABC's "New Year's Rockin' Eve", but he turned on TBS (I think by accident because at the time TBS was on channel 6 and ABC was (and still is) on channel 7. We ended up watching a car drop! It was pretty funny, but we missed the ball drop. Poor guy, never lived that one down. We still love him though, lol.
______________

Any Other Suggestion of Who You Think Should Take Over?

Ryan Seacrest wouldn't be my first choice either. If you could chose, who would take over for Dick Clark? How did Regis do last year? I didn't watch it (I actually didn't even stay up for the celebration). Any ideas?
______________

Sounds like ABC is going to do to Dick Clark what NBC did to Johnny Carson and Clear Channel did to Rick Dees.
______________

Regis did a good job in "Regis" style.
Get Rick Dees, Gary Owens, Charles Gibson....
ABC needs to pick someone with talent, not just a
"Flavor of the week" sort of guy.

Rick Dees(What's he doing these days?)
KLOS-FM's Mark & Brian(sounds crazy, but since KLOS is affilliated with ABC & Disney, who knows?)
Jimmy Kimmel(since he's already under contract with ABC)

As if he hasn't done anything stupid yet?

You know.. I really don't think Dick Clark would be the one to simply give up his show to just anyone. This has got to be a business move. It has to be something along the line of DC Productions get to be "involved" with American Idol or any of their shows in exchange for Seacrest to be the successor of Dick Clark's New Year's Eve show or something along these lines. I just CAN'T see Dick Clark actually believing that Seacrest has the talent for the job and he worked his way and actually deserved it!

HUGE DIFFERENCE!!!

Dick Clark = talented, graceful individual. A legend.

Ryan Seacrest = what talent? nice voice? His voice makes me want to stab my own ear! It hurts my eye to even see this guy!

He had his own show and it died. That tells you something.

The only reason I can think of that he is named to be Clark's successor is because right now, those teen-a-bop's are all drawn to Seacrest. The guy lucked out on American Idol and he's too easy to use as a puppet.

Honestly? I'd go for someone like John Stewart, with the idea that maybe it's time to stop pegging the show to one host every year. Other shows do well rotating in new blood, and introducing cheesy taped segments of grade b musical acts can be handled by a wide range of celebrities.

As for Regis, he did a great job--he's a class act.
