Border Media Partners, which owns five stations on the list, does not have any in the top 10. But Mark Landis, vice president and director of programming, dismisses the significance of the Arbitron ratings saying they are not reflective of the true value the stations deliver to advertisers. The numbers are often skewed by kids and teens who don’t have the same buying power as adults, he says.
“We think it is more important to find the right people,” Landis says. “Our stations do very well among the demographic groups that advertisers are looking for — 25 to 54 adults and 18 to 49 adults.”
Border Media’s stations occupy the 12, 13, 18, 19 and 21st spots on the Business Journal list. But Landis says that is not reflective of the success they are having attracting a core audience that is desired by advertisers. “We are happy with our growth this year,” he says. “We are making a good profit and we are finding a niche in the local community
