Sad News

I received this email early this morning from a very close lady friend of Mike O.

Dear Mr. Tiller..... I am so sorry to tell you that Mike Oswald, known to the radio boards as Mike_O passed away Tuesday March 6 of an apparent heart attack. He died in his SUV listening to the radio. He was a young 55. I live in Buffalo, New York and have known and loved Mike for 30 years. He was my soul mate and he loved radio - he talked radio for hours on end. I would talk to him long distance almost every single night. Please notify people on the radio-info board of his passing.

I will be in contact with his parents tomorrow and can give you more details if you would like. I am in shock right now and will be grieving for the rest of my life. I have pictures of him all over my house. He planned on driving here in May and staying for a month or so. Sorry to be so personal, but I am hurting big time. Thanks....Diane

I'm sure many of you will agree, we share her hurt. Mike's posts were always informative and concise. He was always respectful and would readily admit when he was incorrect about a subject. As soon as I can get more info, I will post it here.

Godspeed, Mike.

I'm shocked! Mike called me last Friday at my house and we talked for half an hour. It was the first time I ever spoke to him but he has posted comments about my internet radio station. Having a heart attack at only 55 years old is a frightening thought. My thoughts and prayers are with Mike and his family. Our radio family has lost somebody who cared about the industry.

This was a shocker!

My thoughts and prayers go out to Mike & his family,

A very sad loss to us all. I'm sure I can speak for most of us, he was well respected and very astute when it came to talking radio, especially the engineering side of things. He will be sorely missed. RIP, our friend.

Agreed that Mike will be extensively missed. Whether we were having a discussion about new or old technology, formats, personalities, or engineering, Mike always had well-thought, sensible comments regarding any [EDIT] (this [EDIT] is for you, Mike) post no matter how trivial. We not only lost a dear friend but a true professional and role model.

Best of luck to friends and family.

Steven

Never met Mike in person. I also never talked to him over the phone like many of you. It's sad to say I never met the guy. Like many of you, I will also miss his posts. Mike was a person who, from the posts, seemed very helpful. It's going to be very weird talking about ratings now without his opinion. My thought and prayers go to Him and His Family. He will be missed

This is very, very sad. He was knowledgeable about and interested in every facet of radio and his posts were always a worthwhile read. I'm sure the companies for whom he provided services will miss him as much as we will here.

My thoughts and prayers go to his family and loved ones.

Very shocking news. Not much older than myself. He was passionate and informed about radio, and thoroughly understood the technical side of things. The board won't be the same without him; he had posted for many years. Rest in peace, Mike.

Please let us know about services when information is available. I did not personally know Mike but I have nothing but highest respect for him,and I would love to attend.

Mike was about the best participant in any of the radio groups I visit. He was insightful, knowledgable, analytical and open to new points of view. I am among those who will miss him deeply on this board.

Wow...just...wow. :'(

I never had any idea Mike's health was failing (but then again, I never met him in person or spoke on the phone with him). He, Mediafrog, and David Eduardo were the three members whose posts I trusted and respected most because I knew they would be backed up with legitimate radio experience and knowledge, not just hearsay. Mike O's loss is truly a black day for this community, and my condolences go out to his friends and loved ones.

I got this message from Diane, this afternoon:

"I just talked with his Mother and they think they are going to have just a private service for the family only. He was an organ donor and his skin will be going to Iran and his heart valves to a baby. He would have liked that. If anything changes I will let you know. Thank you...Diane"

She also emailed me his picture. It's a picture of Mike and his father. I will forward it to anyone who wants it. My email is at the bottom of my post.

I echo everyone's statements here. Just like marioj, I trusted Mike_O, David Eduardo, Mediafrog and rbrucecarter the most for the reasons he listed here. This place won't be the same, Mike. RIP.

oh wow, this is shocking news, he was the best one on the Houston board, may he rest in peace

OH WOW!
I have to agree with every one here. Mike O was well informed, always responsive and knowledgeable. I once got a personal email from Mike about some topic one time, very supportive.

also, does anyone recall if Mike settled the bet on how much KRBE was going to sale for???
I knew that was a discussion from the previous version of this board. I thought it was way above him to put that on the line for a simple discussion about any board topic. He really did try to make the Houston Radio Board a friendly gathering place.

Godspeed Mike O!!

My respect for him just doubled. What an amazing gesture. Thanks Chuck for the updates.

WOW! SHOCKED! I can't believe it. Mike O was perhaps the best poster on this board. I ditto everything already said. I only knew him from this board, but I feel like I've lost a good friend. Loved his posts and carrying on dialogue with him. I too will miss him. God Bless!!!!!!!!!!

Like everyone else, I will miss Mike and his contributions to this board. His technical knowledge was excellent, and his insight was just as good and always genuine. Although we didn't always see eye-to-eye on certain issues, I always considered him a friend and a worthy sparring partner. My condolences to Mike and his family.
