Salaries

The neighborhood is getting a bit run down lately, except for the very few who live on the rich side of the tracks.

Do you mean for the Traffic assistant? Receptionist? Mid Day personalities? General Sales Manager? Custodian? NTR Director? National Sales Manager? Afternoon Drive sidekick? Morning Show Producer? Account Executive? Sales Assistant? Continuity Director? Production Department? Promotions intern? Interactive Director? Promotion Director? Traffic Reporter? Weekend Overnight guy? Morning Show?

I'm just trying to narrow it down a bit.

On-air salaries in Indy range from $20,000-$200,000+ (not counting the syndicated morning show). With a few exceptions, the big bucks are made in mornings. If you are pursuing this career for the money, GET OUT NOW! It's a labor of love...some are blessed with relative financial security, but many are not.

Who's making $200,000 on-air in Lafayette? You don't have to name names, but are you serious?

My guess-timates were for INDY. I think the median on-air salary in Indy is between $35,000-$40,000.

In Lafayette, from what I've seen from non-competes over the years and heard from word of mouth, a full-time salary in Lafayette and nearby stations over past 10 years has ranged from $15,000-$63,000. The high-end salaries are OMs and PDs and the low-ends are on-air only. I seriously doubt anyone on-air is making anywhere in 60k range now, but it's wishful thinking. ;)

Going purely on speculation, I'd say the median salary in Lafayette is probably around $25,000.

When I was in Indy back in 81-82, I made $27,000 for my 4 and out the door!! Guess what station......guess the name gave it away!

Too easy.....WNAP

Nope. Mid day at WASK paid $16,800 during that same time period.

And the winner is: AMP.

AMP makes sense, but you know, $16,800 translates into $8 an hour, too (based on a 40 hour work week).

The only on-air person in Lafayette that desrves a decent salary is Randy Jones because he is the only one that has any personality onair and rapore with his listeners. If youre one of the few talkents thats got that youre worth every penny that a station would give you. Not counting wglm now.

When I heard Randy a few months back I thought it was far and away the best he's ever sounded. A couple of focused concise and just plain fun phoners. Good prep. Strong content. And sounds more relaxed. Like he's enjoying it more.

I enjoyed the work Randy Jones did on the mound for the Padres back in the 70's......good pitcher on a bad team. Crazy uniforms too!
