Salem sells KLTY, six other CCM stations to EMF

I would expect most will stick with 94.9 when its k love
You might be surprised, a lot of us long time listeners are upset because it's not just the music, KLTY does community outreach and events, Christmas Wish is a big one, EMF does nothing at all to help the local communities they beg off of, I'll likely switch to 90.9 instead and I called Air1 to cancel my monthly donation stating them buying and then killing KLTY as my reason.

Salem was exiting the music business to pay down debt. At least they sold it to a company that will keep the format alive on the signals. Over the past few years they have been selling their music stations slowly and now the final 7.

I understand that, it's who the buyer is, I wish kcbi had grabbed it instead.

I’m curious to see the shift in ratings, if your response is shared by a majority of the KLTY audience.

Judging by the results from when KFMK/Austin went from "Spirit 105.9" to K-Love, there may be an initial decline, but by the one-year mark there won't be much noticeable difference unless one of the other operators in DFW makes a massive effort to market themselves during that time.

Why would KCBI want stations in 7 cities across the country? Do they have 80 million to play with? What would they do with KLTY if they bought it? Do they have the management waiting in the wings, the talent to program these stations and the cash flow to operate so many major market stations? The answer is no KCBI would not want these stations, don't have the cash laying around, the talent and management nor the cash flow to run all of them at this point.

Actually EMF does things in the DFW area with both stations. They are involved in the community, granted, not to the extent KLTY is, but they are involved.

Salem and EMF today filed a number of call change requests with the FCC for stations involved in the spinoff. KLTY is NOT one of them so far, though it is possible a change is still on the way.

Check attachment to this filing, which includes all the stations changing call: https://enterpriseefiling.fcc.gov/d...&id=25076f91948a77fe01948f72f3051a53&goBack=N

They got busy again today and requested call changes at other stations they already own or are getting via other transactions. Still no application for a call change at KLTY, but for the week so far they've submitted...

Orange County | KFSH-FM** 95.9 to KAIA (KFSH-FM to warehouse in Klamath Falls)
Oxnard/Ventura | KYRA 92.7 to KAIV
Atlanta | WFSH-FM** 104.7 to WAIA (WFSH-FM to warehouse in Sheffield PA)
Cleveland | WFHM-FM** 95.5 to WKLV-FM (WHFM-FM to warehouse in Meridian MS market)
Portland OR | KZRI 88.7 to KRNZ and KFIS** 104.1 to KPOZ (KFIS to warehouse in Bullhead City AZ market)
Sacramento | KKFS 103.9** to KLVB (swap with crosstown KLVB 99.5)
Texarkana | KPOS 104.3 to KARH
Burlington VT | WIXM 103.3 to WAVJ

**Soon to be former Salem "Fish" outlets. It is interesting they are preserving controlling the former "Fish" calls by shuffling them to small markets. If they do convert KLTY to KLUV, presumably they would do the same to keep someone else from getting them in-market?

The Portland ones are curious with "positive"-looking KPOZ as the future calls given their is a competing religious network of stations called "Positive Life Radio" that rimshoots into the market via KPLP 104.5.

I still suspect that EMF…errr…K-Love Inc. will keep the KLTY call in place until the dust settles from the transition, perhaps six months, to give some promotion continuity. After that I could see the KLUV call quietly placed on 94.9.

Simple just to swap with the South Dakota station where KLUV is currently parked. The KLUV call is too valuable to be left in such obscurity, and if K-Love was going to move it to a large market other than DFW they would have already done so.

K-Love has kept legacy calls for some of their stations in place. WCCC and WPLJ come to mind right away, and 104.1 Portsmouth OH reverted to the WPAY calls after it was bought by then-EMF.

There's really no reason for KLTY to change calls.

Except that EMF went to the expense and trouble of purchasing the right to use them from Audacy. Why go to the trouble, if there was never an intention of reintroducing the set in DFW?

EMF also got the rights to use the K-Love name in DFW, and getting the KLUV calls assured no one could use them and potentially hold them hostage for money. Those calls will work for K-Love anywhere they choose to put them.

Don't get me wrong. I won't be surprised if 94.9 eventually becomes KLUV, but I don't think it's a given either.

They're probably not going to change the calls. They tend to keep some heritage calls. If it was another station, I could see them using the KLUV calls but KLTY has heritage in the Christian format that the KLUV calls don't have.

I could be wrong obviously

It was to ensure they could use the K-Love name in the market. The callsign was a bonus.

In theory, they could also have done a "the K-Love for Christian music" brand sharing arrangement not dissimilar to LA, but Audacy was clearly willing to sell the name and calls to them.

How many times an hour does a K-Love station broadcast its call letters? (yes, I know the answer to that question)

The answer to that question should tell you how much this matters.

It does matter. They tend to go out of their way to put specific calls in specific locations but occasionally leave heritage calls alone.

It's all station specific.
