Satellite VS Traditional Radio

I've had Sirius for a number of years now. I got it to listen to football, but was blown away by the different music channels. I've grown up listening to music in the Boston area from the days of 68RKO. I still listen to the college stations, (I also have a radio show at WMFO), but have almost stopped listening to the big stations up the dial. My number one preset is the Underground Garage. It reminds me of WBCN back in the 70s and the college stations at the left of the dial. (Underground is great for obscure songs for my show) And since I drive a fair amount it's great to have. Yes I have to pay to listen but when comparing the selection of music and talk shows over regular radio or trying to carry and load a bunch of cds, I'll gladly pay.

IMHO Radio is radio. AM/FM/SAT/Internet/Wifi/Who Knows What's Next. It's ALL radio in similar forms. I'm tired of hearing that one is better than the other. I think they all have their good and bad sides. Most of the people running the newer forms came from the more traditional forms, didn't they? It wasn't like Sirius hired some schmo to launch their version of radio. They hired some of traditional radio's biggest and brightest. Some. Not all. ;D

Better or worse...that's subjective. I just rented a car over the weekend with one...I just might jump on the bandwagon.
Listening to Deep Tracks is the closest thing to AOR radio. You can listen to jazz all day....not flipping from one show to another...being from north of Boston, I don't think I can tune into jazz at any hour. There certainly isn't anything like Deep Tracks on the dial. There still are some college stations that have some programs that I enjoy, but there isn't enough of it to keep me interested at any time of day.
IMHO...FM radio isn't for music fans anymore....it's for people who still like to listen to Boston, KC and the Sunshine Band, The Eagles, Bon Jovi, etc....the average Joe's of the world. The rest "us" need to feed our heads with something more substantial. Sorry for sounding a bit snobbish...but am I right or not???

how far north? 91.3 out of Durham has some smooth stuf fon , WHRB is audible into souther new hampshire on 95.3, possibly WICN, WGBH, a couple hours a day on WMBR and anything out of NH i dont konw about

a white rabbit in your hat, i see

clearchannel sans commercials (SiriusXM) with awful AAC64k encoding aural-fatigue-incuding combefilter & delay screech just doenst cut it for the discerning listeners. but we were never the target market - we use japanese and german FM tuners from the 70s, and listen to stations with calsigns like WMFO...certainly dont own cars..

Satelllite Radio today is what terrestrial radio used to be many years ago. It's more creative with more variety. Definitely more fun!

Some of the channels are better than others for sound quality, but I can drive for hours on end and not have to change the station, and when I do I know out of the 8 or so I listen to on a regular basis (XM 6,7,18,25,27,40,46,49) I am going to hear what I want to listen to.

I was with a friend not too long ago, I knew she liked disco era music.. hey look a dedicated channel just for that.

My wife likes golf, not too long ago there was a big tournament on and we were not home for her to watch it.. hey it's on the radio!

I am PO's that after XM lost the rights to NASCAR to Sirius, and then they merged, that they want me to pay a premium to get NASCAR radio back.... sorry guys I can get WGIR for free.

There is nothing like uncensored comedy on a friday afternoon when stuck in traffic.

As for deep tracks, it was at it's best when George Taylor Morris was programming it. RIP GTM.

WHRB signal is broken up in Haverhill....when driving to work (Peabody) I can't get a decent signal until Topsfield. I don't tune much into 91.3, but it's signal is also too weak in Haverhill. When I talk of quality, I'm not refering to the FM transmitter/tuner...I'm speaking of programming. My ears can handle that out of phase/compression sound, just as I can enjoy MP3 audio.
The best thing going on now on the FM dial....WBLM's A-Z....it's the closest thing to AOR radio...unfortunately it only happens once a year:(, but their signal is also not too strong around my parts.
