Saul plans to bring back Oldies stream

Wink Martindale will be 90 in December and at least recently was doing a show in Palm Springs.

Just noticed this post. I co-produce and engineer that show - The History of Rock 'n' Roll - nationally syndicated by United Stations (they just picked it up - G-Networks had it before) and internationally by Radio Express. Wink is terrific as always (not to mention an absolute joy to work with) and the show has won multiple awards since launching in 2021. I'd say 90 is the new 60 (I'm a mere child of 63).

Are you both in the Coachella Valley?

(I'm in La Quinta)

Yep read it in wagoners column this morning 🌅🌅. Apparently there is high interest worldwide in Oldies. So we will see if it really does come back or B Saul is giving up on the format.
This is great news. There always an interest for older music. Look forward to hearing the stream.

Same here, although I'm not exactly sure when it will come back on or what app/website it will be on. Let's see what happens.........

Usually, when Saul says he's doing something he's doing it immediately. This has been seven months. I'm guessing something's changed.

The more I listen to current music, the more I appreciate the old music.
If you're ever in the SFV part of the LA area, you might tune in KHUG the little LP on 97.5. They play a unique mix of Classic rock and Classic R&B/Soul. Don't think I've heard any other station do that. K-HUG can be streamed as well..

This station is licensed as KLQS-LP San Fernando and simulcasts KHUG-LP Castaic, both on 97.5. Programming is also simulcast on KTCN Acton on 88.3.

Thanks Thomas and radiofan!

Listening online now and it souds good!

First songs up:

"Hush" by Deep Purple
"Too Hot" by Kool and the Gang
"Ain't no Sunshine" by Bill Withers

---Cool Professional Sounding Station Jingle --

"That's Alright" by Wet Willie (Yeah it is!)
"Hello, It's Me" by Todd Rundgren
"Mighty Love" by the Spinners
"Midnight at the Oasis" by Maria Muldauer

This is the kind of variety I am looking for. The website talks about the music just sounding better when it is curated by people who care. Can I get a Jim Ladd "Lord Have Mercy" Amen to that?! Plus all kinds of specialty shows and highlighting local artists on site and on air. Imagine that!

But the topper is the super-cool site domain "www.khug.rocks". I won't be forgetting that one anytime soon. In fact, I thought it was so cool, I did a little investigating and now, five minutes and fifteen bucks later, I am the proud new owner of www.kmet.rocks. If anyone wants to recreate the golden days of KMET online, I have your site address ready to go and will make you a good deal. In the meantime, I own www.kmet.rocks. for um, a song.

In the meantime guys, be on the lookout for my online contribution.

That list of 7 songs is 2'oh wows', 2 might tune away tunes and 3 stick around songs.

I'd likely stick through a 'might tune away' tune to catch an 'oh wow'. So, I'd listen at least during the day at least. Since there is zero underwriting, I am wondering how he will do with donations given there is very little talk of it on air.

The website says: "Help keep KHUG commercial free."

The fact is that LP radio stations are required by law to be commercial free. If donations don't cover all the expenses, their only choice is to cut expenses. Not run commercials.

The stream is another story. If they want to have pre-roll ads on their stream, that's not regulated by the FCC. But if they are LP, they must be commercial free.

Which can be a good thing. Their primary interest is pleasing their donors and members, not achieving certain demos for advertisers. Which is why it sounds the way it does. I often wonder why more people haven't done what this owner has done. He is basically doing EMF for secular music.
