Obviously, I would want a dance contemporary station on 101.9 (and if you're all shocked by that, I have a bridge to sell in Brooklyn!)
The deal is this.....yeah, we made noise about Pulse 87 and the station did have a million listeners at a point. Yet there was no "corporate" sponsor during that peak, and being that the station was at a low dial position with a crappy signal, you really couldn't get a "read" per se on the potential success of such a format; instead all of the naysayers bashing it in one way or another being hypercritical about whether our brand of dance should even
BE on the radio dial, because as I've heard countless times over and over and over....."
IT'S TOO NICHE!"
Let's put out some truths here. Yeah, Pulse 87 was our "dance" station (note the quotes), but at the same time "rhythmic" music was interspersed into the format (Flo Rida, Sean Kingston, just to name a few; and - because someone is GOING to say it so let me throw some "cold water" here - this was happening even AFTER the Star & Buc Wild show left.)
If anything, a NEW station should go that route, and I'll "go there" and say add a little bit of hythmic/hip-hop....NOT to the point where the station is another Hot 97 or Power 105.1, but some. We NEED that crowd in there and lately that crowd has been leaning towards dance in that sense. Say what you want about PartyFM, but they knew this.

. At this point we need exposure because, based on the tirades in the recent past (when Pulse left and PartyFM came in on 87.7), we don't have much of a "leg" to stand on by saying that we want a PURE DANCE station. Radio is a business and the bottom line, bills and staff need to get paid.
For markets like NYC, Los Angeles, Miami, Boston, Chicago, to name a few of the big markets, a strong leaning dance friendly station (and yes, interspersed with a small dose of the rhythmic/hip-hop) will work. For smaller markets, strong CHR's that are "dance friendly" will be helpful (like K-104 in Poughkeepsie and Fun 107 in Fairhaven/New Bedford, MA) in terms of exposure for our music.
Okay DToTheJ, MarcR and wgilradio...blast me. I'm ready
