Sayonara, Mark & Brian!

Nice to see someone go out on their terms and get the chance to say goodbye. Rarely heard of these days. Good Luck gentlemen, thanks for the laughs.

So it looks like Mark & Brian really HAVEN'T left! the building??

http://www.955klos.com/programschedule.asp

Me thinks KLOS management was feverishly panicking & scrambling all weekend what to put on the air come Monday at 5a!! What tools! This is the worst transition and lack of promotion I've ever seen! So bush league for a #2 market! Wouldn't want to be an AE!

Hadn't heard.

Lame, lame lame! Just an excuse to buy time to fill the slot!

Don't you think if there was a show in place they'd kick it off tomorrow!?? Why wait!!? And don't you think they would've labeled that on their web site as such (e.g., "Best of Mark & Brian")!?? Are they that incompetent over at La Cumulus!!?

I'm guessing you didn't actually read the articles from the L.A. Times + O.C. Register posted about the last show re: Brian Phelps announcement.

Brian was in negotiations with KLOS/Cumulus up until Thursday 8/16, just one day before the last live show.
Which means that KLOS had no chance to promote any show until they would know who would actually be on the new show.

A potential fly in the ointment was KLOS PD Jack Silver's exit to go to the new NBC Radio Sports Network; Jack was a heavy proponent of bringing back Brian Phelps when Mark Thompson made his retirement announcement back in June. Perhaps the current management was not quite as hot to the idea. Of course we don't know what Phelps was demanding in terms of contract and/or show cast/elements, etc. which likely played a factor in negotiations.

Plus: some radio hosts prefer not to mention when they'll be on vacation. Possibly a station requests that the hosts not make any announcement in order to try to hold as much audience as possible (especially easy if the station runs "best of..." shows rather than fill-in hosts).

As mentioned in another post, this upcoming two week vacation was scheduled way in advance. Likely Mark + Brian would have scheduled this time off leading into Labor Day whether they were staying or going.

Bottom line: KLOS/Cumulus management should've never let the negotiations get this far -- to the day before the last live show! This is indicative
of incompetent Cumulus-LA management, and more importantly, of what's to come -- the downfall of KLOS (kabc is already in the tank!).

So it sounds like we won't know what changes to the morning show they'll make until AFTER Labor Day weekend. Oh boy! Can hardly wait! (Sarcasm intended).

Gary Lycan's O.C. Register article wrapping up the M+B breakup/H+F arrival here.
Apparently agent Eric Weiss had a role in bringing KLOS together with Heidi + Frank.

Does anyone really care anymore about M&b leaving?

I just want to know if female sidekick Kelli Gates is going anywhere. Is it true that the entire staff was let go? She's got a sexy voice, hope she lands on her feet.

Their show has been worn out for many years. Time for some new blood - finally!

I've lived in LA for over 25 years, and listened to their show for maybe all of five minutes total in that time and never really got what their appeal was.

What'll be interesting is how the morning numbers look in the coming months ... and years.

I'm sure you spent all five of those minutes with an open mind.

And now after admitting that you don't listen to the show and didn't "get it" in those precious five minutes you did listen, you feel justified in spending at least that much time writing several negative posts about them on this thread.

There are many things one can say about this, but let's just be kind and simply say this says a lot about you and nothing about M&B.

Yes, I DO feel justified!

And that's all the time I needed to see just how mediocre, light weight and week their show
is! I did listen to their last show via podcast ... which was better than anything I've heard before! Believe me, Channelflipper, I'm not alone!
