Schnitt Checking Out Of Tampa Completely

CC4Life is a troll if I ever saw one. First off, calling yourself "CC for life", only proves how clueless you are... obviously you haven't gotten screwed yet. I promise you, you will. Secondly, you have no idea what you're talking about with regard to Mark Larsen. He isn't "finished", in fact he almost ended up doing mornings full-time on a certain station around here two years ago. CC wouldn't be letting him hang around there if they didn't have plans for him in the future, same goes for Wuco. It all comes down to money, and Schnitt's sponsors were drying up because he was obnoxious. Believe it or not, Larsen has a big pool of sponsors he could tap into again, and the talk radio audience would love to see him full time again. Saying that his days are over is ridiculous. Shouldn't you be babysitting an automation system somewhere?

Oh yeah, check this thread out 4 life...

Today's layoffs at Clear Channel -- which included laying off the program director who would have been leading the search for Schnitt's "local" replacement -- lead me to believe Sean Hannity is on deck after all.

Can't see Jack Harris happily taking this slot -- he's got plenty going on in the community after "AM Tampa Bay" signs off each day. Can't see Tedd Webb able to take the slot with his ongoing, self-documented health issues. And God forbid they foist the mediocre, non-charismatic weekender Frank Wuco on listeners. Five damn days a week of Navy stories and jihad updates? Pass.

I worked with Wuco on and off for a year and he's a very pleasant guy, but his war propaganda makes me sick to my stomach. This guy has "wargasms"? He gets pleasure from watching our military blowing up little brown kids? I'm not anti-war necessarily but no one anywhere should take pleasure from seeing humans blown to bits. If WFLA starts airing him 5 days a week, I totally won't be surprised, but I will be disappointed. I think Larsen much more accurately represents WFLA's audience, whereas Wuco (like Schnitt) PUSHES his views on a somewhat unresponsive audience... at least that's how I see it...

What about Corey Dylan in the 3-6 slot. I might actually listen and give Q105 a break

No offense to Corey, but I haven't seen any evidence that she is ready to be a solo host - or even wants it.

I have to concur with badjef's assessment. Plus, I can't see that move playing well with WFLA's P1 audience.

Unless, of course, WFLA is ready to shift away from political talk and adopt more general-interest talk in the hope she can build a different (i.e., female) listenership for the station. But with Clear Channel's current financial picture, I can't see WFLA doing anything to change what has been a relatively successful format. They won't risk any dip in revenue.

From Mark Larsen's facebook today...

"ON THE RADIO: I'll be your LOCAL talk jockey, ruining your holiday spirit, 3PM-6PM on 970WFLA/105.9FM, beginning 12/19 thru 1/4/13. First time in over 10 years for LOCAL chat in the PM! Also on AM Tampa Bay with Tedd Webb 12/26."

So... has anyone heard if Schnitt is going to be picked up in this market???? Not even some rumblings ???? Frankly, I say don't let the door hit him in the ass on his way out....

Even though Mark has filled in for Schnitt before, his claim of "local" is because Schnitt's program is a National program. Mark's wording it in this way, means he will only be heard in the Tampa Bay area on the 1-1/2 stations of WFLA.

You will also notice, that it is assumed he will be on TWICE on the 26th and no mention of January 7th, 2013.

It is possible his show may still be aired on 1250.

If it was up to me, I'd "shelve" it there rather than let it be picked up by another station in the market.

Maybe WLSS will pick it up.....lol...

Don't joke, Salem is crazy enough to hire the midget.
Wow, I'd finally have him back as a local - after all these years on the "improved" 25kw Sa-ra-so-ta! fleapowered signal.

WLSS's signal is pretty good. Back when I worked there, I used to monitor it all the time from my house in downtown St. Pete. I can even hear it at night sometimes.

WLSS is fine for Sa-ra-so-ta!, but it is a retransmission of WGUL. I don't even think they have sales offices down here anymore. You usually lose 930 in Southern Manatee because the signal is blowing West. You may be in a minor lobe where you are in St. Pete.

But I was referring to the 970 signal.

Ever since they upped the power to 25kw from 5kw, I have signal problems. They brought the signal in and sent it East. Where you used to lose it at SR 27 and I-4, you can listen to it much further East into Orlando.

In addition to that, the electrical interference and from other sources, getting increasingly worse, have 970 disappearing in key areas of the City.

That is where my sarcasm lays.

All I listen to is AMTB and Rush, now, on the station. My radio is locked on 970, but when it is bad, I turn other alternatives. The micro-market signal of 105.9 was a slap in the face for us, down here. One would think they would like to blanket the market, but that doesn't seem to be the thought process, anymore.

If they use 94.5 in Pinellas, I still don't think that would help us. My thinking is that if it is more difficult to pick them up, we will start listening to more of our local stations in the Sa-ra-so-ta! cluster. That won't happen because there is little appeal to the local stations for me outside of Rays Baseball on WSRQ, and that isn't even part of the CC cluster.

Oh I completely agree that the so called big power increase did nothing to the south, it even worsened it... When they were only 5,000 watts I could hear WFLA almost to Naples along I-75... Now they fade in and out in Manatee county...But then again CC hasn't given a rat's ass about serving Manatee / Sarasota from Tampa at all.. even 970 WFLA USED to mention us even in the hourly weather reports, but it's all the 4 county NORTH OF TAMPA BAY areas that they care about... They don't even acknowledge that Manatee County IS the south side of Tampa Bay... it's all about :Hillsborough, Pinellas, Polk, Pasco .. that's it.. and the local Sarasota cluster USED to simulcast WFLA on 1450, but that went away after the WFLA power increase...I really have to use an old Select Antenna to even pick up 970 in my home....off SR 70 in Manatee County... CC has proven over the years, that they just don't care....

I'm wondering how long he's still under contract, if at all, with Clear Channel, and if so, what his new flagship might be... CC's recently acquired WOR in New York, possibly? (And yes, I know the show is syndicated by Compass, not Premiere.)

You may have hit on what is really behind this. It may have everything to do with the syndication companies. We may be looking at CC wanting to complete all of their talk stations having nothing but the Premier syndication product. We have been seeing this direction for some time. Maybe they are ready to complete the cookie cutter. The acquisition of WOR would certainly aid that.

CC seems to not quite want to give up on AM just yet. They seem as though they are pulled dragging and screaming to FM. They test several markets, here and there, but seem to be unwilling to pull the trigger away from AM.

The San Diego Market may hold the key to their direction.

The tide may be changing, Jeff. Just yesterday, Clear Channel agreed to donate Liberal Talk “AM 1310” WDTW Detroit to the Minority Media & Telecom Council.

The MMTC, which acts as a non-profit broker to secure training and ownership for female and minority owners, will turn around and sell or lease the station to such a buyer. Clear Channel previously donated a few other stations to MMTC including 690 KFXN Minneapolis.
