Scott Shanon to mornings at WOR?

Shannon is about the same age as Gambling I think.
would Shannon bring better ratings, younger listeners to WOR &
for how many years ?

Maybe Shannon would stay on WOR for years until he's as burnt out as Imus .
I doubt a large number of
listeners would follow Scott to WOR. Young & middle age people do not
generally bother with AM radio.

cause most of it is tired sounding news and political talk that one could do without in their lifetime :)
at least that's what most people under 40 think if they even know AM still exists :)

in recent years Shannon sounded like an angry, old white guy on WPLJ.,
He may fit in OK on WOR .,
And, go against angry, old Imus on WABC.

What I recall about Scott Shannon: when he was still in Miami he made Charlene's "Never Been to Me" a hit in '82 (?) when in fact she had recorded it back in '76 (Mary Macgregor had her own version as a follow-up to "Torn Between Two Lovers"). Not long after that, he got the NYC gig. The station I worked at ran Scott's syndicated countdown show, "Rockin' America" (that had to be around 86-87). We had previously aired John Leader's "Countdown America," but when Dick Clark took over that show, our PD dropped it and went with Shannon's countdown, which had sketches from his "Zoo Crew" in between songs.

I hear people talk about Shannon being in his mid 60's, and maybe a bit too old to help attract younger listeners, but here is something to think about. If you were a 15 to 24 years old, listening to Scott during Z100's Worst to First era, when that was the hottest radio station in NYC, that would make you about 45 to 54 years old now. Getting some of those number on board, could "young down" WOR a bit, and make it attractive to advertisers. Also, Shannon is very good at surrounding himself with strong people, and knows NY inside & out. I suspect this challenge would energize him, the same way he was energized 30 years ago when the "experts" said he could never make a Top 40 station work in New York.

Smart money is on a format change at 92.3 and Scott in mornings. Change to what, exactly, is the question. That's what I'm hearing, anyway.

92-3, RXP? Has a nice ring to it. ;-)

Scotts always sounded like an angry old white guy....or have you never heard the stories of how he apparently used to throw carts at the heads of interns? :)

It does but unlikely since Cumulus has the calls on 105.3 in Cambridge, MN. 92.3 is owned by CBS Radio.

a tweak in the format could bring Shannon to 92.3 . but, would he be PD & morning jock ?

That's the thing: He WANTS to be PD of any station where he works. He wants authority over the programming. And he wants a huge amount of money. I don't see either CC or CBS giving him that. They'd be fine having him do mornings, but with no authority and for a lot less money, and if that's what he wanted, he would have stayed at PLJ.

Was Shannon PD at WPLJ until he left recently? I seem to recall someone
else being PD there the last few years.

as far as I know--- WOR has not denied they are hiring Shannon.

The internet isn't radio.

"We" know that. But it just seems that the listener insists that any outsourced audio content, however it is delivered, is "radio".

Our choice is to adapt to the consumer or get left behind.

Why fire anyone at cbs fm, WNOW or WWFS & pay big $$$ to hire Shannon?
he likely would not bring many new listeners with him.

(and he likely would not bring many new listeners to WOR either.)
