FYI: Talking Phone Book trades for the front cover...Tragic Broadcasting did it this year in PC.
In the past some have paid for the cover, however, they will trade (2 for 1)...
Well, I don't know how the phone books negotiate with other companies in the advertising business.
The cover of the Gulf Breeze Talking Phone Book was more ridiculous that I originally thought. According to CCEng, the Jazz Fest will be in Panama City, about a 3 hour drive from Gulf Breeze and WSBZ's signal doesn't come in until you drive about 1 hour down 98. No matter what type of consideration was given for this add, it was wrong. Unless it was free, it was a scam.
Yellow Book made me a pretty good offer for space on the cover of their Pensacola Metro book, I declined the offer because I couldn't see a need for 3 full metro Pensacola phone books and had no faith in Yellow Book's future. If ATT had made me a similar offer, I would have jumped on it and paid cash up front.
On an unrelated radio advertising note, I received a call today from a lady representing Pensacola Christian Radio, "WNRV 1080 AM". The sales line she repeated at least 3 times was "we're really big". Strange, I don't recall seeing them listed very high in the 12+ ratings. I asked her several times what station she was working for and what market it was in. She didn't know. She didn't know she was trying to sell WNVY 1070. After I ran out of time to play with her and had to take another call I told her that I wasn't interested. She simply replied, "I'm not surprised." It must be hard to sell a station that doesn't exist.
On another unrelated radio advertising note, a collection agency has purchased a "debt" from a local radio station that I'm still advertising on. They're trying to collect for the adds run during the month they were off the air after Hurricane Ivan. I've never had the pleasure to f*** around with a collection agent before. I kinda look forward to his calls. Anyone have a suggestion on what I should tell him next week?
