Seattle-Tacoma Radio Ratings: August 2015

If you have ever worked for a non-com versus commercial station then you know the difference. There is even a difference in how they justify purchases and engage new technology.

I'm not asking about the difference in programming or purchasing. I'm asking a technical question about why stations think Voltair will help news/talk stations, yet here is a news/talk station that seems to be doing fine without it. Could it possibly be that the problem isn't technical?

I guess the difference is that there are only two News/Talk stations in the Seattle ratings. I have already, by judging the number of Voltairs sold, assumed that KIRO-FM is using one. In News Talk, KIRO-FM is ahead of KUOW. Yes the KUOW numbers are respectable but if they were commercial they would want KIRO-FM's numbers. So I agree the reason KUOW is number two in the News/Talk format may not be technical at all.

Right, and if you take a ride down the coast to San Francisco, you'll see that KQED is killing all the commercial news/talkers. That's also not a function of Voltair.

So its obvious the claims of some stations that their particular formats would be doing better if it weren't for PPM are a lot of hot air.

Maybe it's time to move this to a different thread, the Voltair thread, because this now has gone way off topic. Let's get back on topic. What happened to KPLZ, KRWM, and who really is Seattle's #1 hit music station? KIRO AM what are they doing right over there...you know they are counting down to kickoff so those numbers are going to get gawdy... Oh and KJR FM - Ok, we have all had to sit up and take notice of just what a ridiculous run you have had. Guess classic hits is now the at work choice for Seattle huh? Will KMPS ever regain the luster and shine it once had or has FITZ killed them once and for all? Why does KLCK continue to suck? Taking bets now on how long they will last...until ANOTHER change? Ratings, come on let's all try to stay on topic.

A good amount of people are enjoying Classic rock and hits. I can't help but wonder if KIRO-AM is seeing the football bump starting to happen. Question will be how big and how long. Will it repeat next year. Hey KTTH went up a little. People tuning in for election candidate hashing? People wanting to hear the conservative perspective of Trump? KPLZ Good job, consistency wins but for how many many years. No I don't think KMPS is dead. But then again KUBE could switch to Country and not even have to change calls. KUBE County or even Klick Country if KLCK wanted to flip to county. How many stations in the last two years have switched to the CHR/AC genre and not even touched Country. KMPS wishes they had the Wolf's numbers and there are stations that wish they had KMPS's numbers.

Are we still talking about the published 6+ numbers here, or a particular demo?

I still don't get 6+ ratings. Kindergarteners and first graders listen to Warm 106.9? If they listen to music at all, it's usually that Kidz Bop stuff, or cheerful video game soundtracks. But I suspect you could throw in "listen in the car" stuff and Christmas tunes during the holidays.
I heard KBKS yesterday on a hike near Chinook Pass. "Seattle's #1 Hit Music Station." Uh, check again - KQMV is kickin' your butt.
KPLU is in the 2's! Interesting. Are there not enough listeners who want "all that jazz"?

6+ is for rookies, noobs, and outsiders. The money demos - Let's just start P25-54 and then we can go from there?

The PPM picks up listening whether you chose the station or not. That includes kids in the car or kitchen with mom or dad, or on a family outing or even in a friend's home.

Advertisers don't care if a person picked the station... they want a measure of impressions for their ads.

Absolutely! Post the rankers and we'll start the discussion.

C'mon Robby, ya should know a little more than that. If you don't have access to the #'s you aint in the game son..People who are in the know can discuss them those who don't well they talk about DX Reports Signal path and wax nostalgic for the days of the Original Larry... ;) Just look at your top 5 stations. P25-54 - then check out day parts. Who is there, Who ISNT there. Who SHOULD be there....

6+ is for rookies, noobs, and outsiders.

Which is about 85% of the contributors of this board.

Even Adults 25-54 isn't the "money" demo, depending on the station's situation.

And again, about 85% do not have access to that information. There is also a fair number of people who refuse to, or don't, understand the concept of the prime demos.
