Seattle-Tacoma Radio Ratings: July 2023

Also how is KAYO doing? I know all my friends that like country say that station is a good one.
They’re a very good radio station in my opinion. They’ve also got some great talent over there as well. The only problem is that they’re hindered by a poor signal, and are stuck being a south sound radio station at the most.

Wow, some interesting numbers. Last week, I began to think that at the first decline of KPNW, I'd give them two years. I think it's time to start that clock. Sure Hubbard seems to be committed to the format, but I can't imagine it lasting long with the numbers they're pulling. In other news, it'll never happen, but it would be wild if iHeart decided to flip 1090 to KUBE and dump conservative talk. That would be interesting to watch, as the HD2 version gets better numbers than any other HD in the market, and better than the current 1090 format.
They wouldn’t do that to AM… unless they bought an FM translator to cover the area.

Excellent ratings for The Wolf once again. I’d expect it to remain that way throughout summer and fall, cool off in winter, and repeat again next year (unless anyone else where to try country, which doesn’t seem likely).
Maybe 98.9 will flip back if KPNW doesn’t do well but 98.9 could also try another format if that happens. Who knows!

That might be the worst ratings I've ever seen for Spirit 105.3. 1.7? Are Christians leaving the Puget Sound area? 37% according to this (Religious Landscape Study) are non-religious and many are atheist.
94.1 jumped up again, Delilah is the train that keeps it running. Nearly made it to 3rd place. Take *that*, 'feel good' Warm!

What can KPNW try to get up into the 3's, other than tightening up the playlist? A piddly 0.9 just sparks another format flip countdown for a frequency that has had mixed success since the fall of KWJZ.
I think it is cause people hate Christians (the real ones) in 2023, so they won’t listen to that station. Most of their songs sound the same anyways which doesn’t really help. Maybe some of them are moving to more conservative areas hence their ratings rn. Warm will probably tweak again very soon to try to beat “The Sound” but keep its current music direction of “Todays Hits, Yesterdays Favorites”. Btw they are usually one of the top stations in Seattle cause they play the 80s through today but they only reach #1 during Christmas time. Warm can’t bring Delilah back to the station since “The Sound” already has her even if they wanted to. I don’t think they will add Mario Lopez to their lineup and they won’t add John Tesh since they already have him on KIXI 880.

Re: KCMS
KCMS used to be the only CCM station in the market, but now it's a crowded field. The audience is probably slowly discovering the other stations, particularly K-Love.

Yep the listeners want it on 93.3 and 93.3 only. I don’t think they will go to AM and 1090 will stay the same.
Historically, iHeartMedia’s idea to use 104.9 for KUBE was not the worst idea in the world. They moved a format that was taking up space on one of their premier signals to a rimshot (which could still be heard in some of the areas that matter). The issue was that the format still wasn’t marketable, and they had to dump their rimshot signals when they acquired better assets from CBS. Had the merger never happened, they may have been content leaving hip hop on 104.9 for lack of anything else to use it for.

But they’ve also created their own unique lane with KPNW. It’s worth giving it time to take off before pulling any plugs. Any other format will be something that someone else is already doing. They could always decide to return the to country later if AAA doesn’t work out, but I suspect they want to invest in something where they don’t have to battle a strong incumbent.

RE: KCMS: I agree with RedPlume here -- in KCMS's glory years (the 2000's - 2010's? when I recall that they had higher 6+ ratings) there was much less competition for the Christian music genre. Now there are at least two EMF outlets (AirOne and K-Love), Crista's second Christian music station on FM, and probably some inroads from online CCM streaming stations.

Yep, I think it is crowded rn. There is Air 1 on the south side of the market as well as Worship 24/7. I believe some of the KCMS listeners also listen to K-LOVE. I think Air 1 came before K-LOVE and Worship 24/7 when it was less crowded and KCMS was the only CCM station in the market.

I don’t think Praise 106.5 affects the ratings since it is in NW Washington. Air 1 existed in Tacoma since 2010-2011 I believe. Air 1 and K-LOVE probably affect the ratings to a certain extent but I think K-LOVE is doing it the most since it is a full market station.

I think they will continue to try to get it to work before they flip the format to Hot AC, Country, or anything else.
