Brian,
If only the white, male, conservative, Republican evangelical Christians of the world would quit listening to right-wing radio designed to make you paranoid about Christianity under siege or terrorists in your breakfast cereal, and truly live by the "live and let live" attitudes you mentioned, there might be a little less divisiveness in our country and our lives. You will also find the current "conservative" agenda is anything but conservative, it's radical, but it's been presented as conservative and designed to play upon your deepest traditions and loyalites so you'll go along with it. The Democratic party these days reflects the more conservative ethos of our Founding Fathers more than the Republicans currently do, and as a Libertarian, it takes a lot for me to say that.
Come to the west coast, there are plenty of megachurches and shooting ranges out here, and I don't see all sorts of lefties, etc., protesting them or otherwise. Ever been to Orange County? As Republican an area as you can find, except they're not evangelical Republicans, just well-paid, highly-medicated Republicans too jaded to care about the environment who don't like religious puritans telling them what they can do between the sheets. Plus, you are aware which city the Michael Savage show is based out of.
As a white, male, conservative in L.A., I'll be the first too admit some so-called liberals are as empty-headed and as quick to judge based on learned responses as wacked-out right-wingers, and I'm not doubting radio may be more diverse in Memphis. If it is, great, it should be, Memphis is a great American music city. I've had some wonderful visits to Tennessee. Memphis may have a market make-up better suited for successful radio diversity, but that has little bearing on quality of life or level of political correctness somewhere. And you red staters relax, you still have your disaster of a President for another two years, so enjoy it.
