Seattle TV Wall to Wall on Murder Spree

I was very surprised at the lack of national coverage. Viewers do want to see events like this which are unfolding, whether in NYC, DC, LA, Seattle, East Podunk, etc. And CNN wonders why they're getting miniscule ratings? Really?!?

I also like Herb Weisbaum and get the feeling he knows what he is talking about.

Having never met the guy I can't personally attest to this, but I've heard from several people in that plaza that he has one of the biggest egos in Seattle media. :-\

Surprising, given that he's been around for years, anchored the afternoon news at KIRO back in the 80's, and still hasn't really become "well-known" in the area. He must be the "consumer expert" in his own mind! :D

Herb still has strong name recognition in the Seattle market. I think his tenure has been atleast 25 years, if not more.

Herb has been around Seattle since 1981 at least. He's done some national consumer advocate work for CBS and he's the forerunner of these "consumer specialists" that are ubiquitous on local TV news today anywhere in America (I can't think of anyone before him doing that.)

Hearing Herb do straight radio news on KOMO was a mindwarp for me. He's really good, but I was used to him reporting on a dangerous toy or a shady company.

But he still does consumer advocacy, on both KOMO and MSNBC

Herb puts in the work. Ego or not, he does great work as well! Besides, if you were as good looking as Herb, you'd have a huge ego too.

I found it odd at first to hear Herb doing straight news on KOMO. He's the consumerman, after all. But, like Slocum before him, he's a career TV guy who was able to transform himself into a tremendous radio newsman.

Having worked with Herb for parts of 3 years at KOMO, I can tell you he is a quality fellow as well as a seasoned pro. He's also an east coast guy like me, meaning that area's tendency of spouting wisecracks and ribbing colleagues (deemed 'normal' in that part of the country) can be misconstrued as 'ego' in the more reserved and private Pacific Northwest way of life.

Herb started as an intern at the legendary WFIL-AM in Philly back in the day. Wonder how many people he pulled over in Bala-Cynwyd or Rittenhouse Square while driving the supercharged WFIL Prize Patrol Hot Rod?

Have to agree with Bob. Anyone who really believes Herb has a typical TV personality ego doesn't know Herb very well. He's one of the most down-to-earth people you'll ever meet.

I always thought those were two different people with the same name. They really ARE one and the same? That's a kick!
I have an 'FIL aircheck that mentions him, in fact....
