SEC, with ESPN's help, will launch SEC Network next year

The SEC should just absorb the ACC. Problems for both conferences solved. The biggest obstacle would be the politics involved with allowing Georgia Tech to rejoin the SEC after being thrown out of the conference for bad sportsmanship.

Tradition for Mizzou died with the Big 8

The Big 10 started this tv network trend with Fox. The mountain west failed with mtn by cbs.
The pac 12 is having a hard time getting national carriage. The Longhorn Network has proven to be a failure for ESPN because they can't get enough systems to carry it. The sec seems like a slam dunk, but will likely have a hard time getting a slot on many systems.

They mostly care about getting the channel in the basic cable in the conference footprint, the same package as ESPN and ESPN2

Agree. Anything outside of the conference footprint is gravy.

They have a deal with Fox meaning FOX Sports Net can carry their Games but no 24/7 Sports Channel yet.
MTN West Network is on AT@T U-Verse,S. Dish/and local Cable Systems in that area.

I think that misses the point. With the exception of the Longhorn Network, all of these need national carriage in order to justify their existence. It's not gravy, it's essential to the survival of these networks. Even the Longhorn Network is barely visible in much of the state of Texas. It just hasn't worked and it's going to cost ESPN a lot of money. The SEC, Pac 12, Big 10 and even the Big 12 have significant followings nationwide. They need to tap into all of that in order to get enough eyeballs to watch enough sports to justify a 24/7 channel. So far, only the Big 10 has had much success with that.

Longhorn network only focuses on one team whose games the other channels have declined, Pac 10 net doesn't have the leverage of big group, BTN has Fox behind it, SEC network will have ESPN behind it
