SEPTEMBER'S 'CRY FOR YOU' ON Z-100????

Maybe it's just my personal tastes, but certain things about Pulse really are beginning to disappoint me.

The amount of remixes of Jordin Sparks, Kelly Clarkson, Chris Brown, and that same old FloRida song that they beat into the ground since Day 1. (How about "Elevator" or "In the Ayer" instead?) Also the old school freestyle. Leave the freestyle to KTU. At times they almost sound like KTU.

In the last couple of hours,on Pulse, I've heard Beyonce's "Crazy In Love", Fergie's "Big Girls Dont Cry", CC Penniston's "Finally", Pink "Who Knew", Rockell-"In A Dream" (an overplayed KTU staple,even today). There's nothing outstanding or 'hits with an edge' about this.

Thank God for the current stuff that they do play. But I wish they would gear it even more toward the currents.

I guess I'm spoiled being able to listen to stations like Kiss 100 London, Voltage and Slam FM online and I can't and shouldnt wish for a European style station in NY.

I really want to enjoy Pulse because they do dare to be different. But lately, they seem to be getting more mainstream in the music they play.

and does anyone understand that anymore???
honestly lalumia, i have to agree w/ cartman. i'm sure there are others that share the same feelings including disappointment. i wouldn't necessarily say they're becoming mainstream however, they are playing songs that z-100 and ktu are playing in hopes of snatching their listeners. i will agree though that the flo-rida, jordin sparks, kelly clarkson and chris brown songs need not be played out more than Z-100 did. instead of pulse promoting the hell out of the sunday night freestyle party this past week, they should focus on organizing their own concert. hell, i'd do what i can to promote. i'd contact some artists i know to get this thing off the ground.

i find myself often wondering if pulse would or could ever sound like ipartyradio.com, energy981.com, c-89.5 in seattle, or z-88.9. now that's some good stuff right there.

a commercial radio station, which needs something resembling the masses to tune in, can never sound like the .com stations, unless it plans to be flipped in six months time;
radio plays hits for a simple reason; the majority of casual music fans, who don't care about what's new, they just care about what they like, like the hits,of which dance is sadly not part of the equation ...at this time...

I PARTIALLY agree with you Jimi, about 80 percent.

Radio is a business first and foremost and there happens to be more casual fans of music in general than core fans. So radio has to appeal to that "common denominator." Though I have to say, for those that are tuning in to Pulse 87, dance IS part of the equation and apparently something must be happening for a Z-100 or any CHR station to consider a little something. It may be happening slowly but surely now. Let's see what happens during the summer.

Granted, I'd LOVE to have a European style station here, but there is still TONS of work that has to be done stateside to further push dance to the masses. And hearing C89.5, Z88.9, Super 91.7, they may have certain variables that are different than Pulse since dance music is SO regional. But they're not doing anything dramatically different. The streaming Internet stations can get away with reaching to core fans like us because most of them don't have commercial ties.

The one thing I've said about Pulse 87 when they first came out....the station is a rhythmic CHR, not "dance" per se. While current dance is a major part of the equation, the pop remixes and R&B material are also a part of this as well, and if that can get more people to tune in to dance, then let's embrace the "newbies" to dance music! :)
