Ya know, that could almost be a viable format for 105.7. Unfortunately for that, they showed a miniscule-enough gain the last couple of books for Ken and Hy to keep the current format. The Decatur transmitter doesn't help reel in much of the black audience that adores smooth jazz (but hey, they're already extending their dipoles to pull in KRNB anyway, right?) and the older, affluent fogies who use smooth jazz as background and easy-chair music could pull it in easily from their comfy digs in the northern counties.
A skilled programmer is a must. We haven't had one seasoned in smooth jazz here since Bret Michael. Wonder if Hy could drag Bret out of graduate school for a radio comeback? But it's not a tough thing to do...easy on the Kenny G and put SELECT vocals in the mix (Sade and Anita Baker, etc) and an occasional soft R&B oldie ballad like "What You Won't Do for Love" by Bobby Caldwell.
I don't think Service would pay Lynn properly to be on a signally-challenged station, tho. But she is missed!
