What is going on over there?

First, I read that K104's "new" night guy, Dj Tazz has been dismissed. Then, I just read that KRNB's PD, Sam Weaver is gone.

What is the deal?.....

They are going Classic Country.

Yeah, wasn't that a promise made on this very board, scheduled to happen November 18, 2003?

I think that's "HymAn." "HymEn" is a word that can't be uttered on KEOM.

That's right Mike. I'm still waiting for you to backmask it for us! ;)

HMMM that means the TSN news should be edited as well on the stations. The other day the story had a driver arrested for dui,and a search of his car revealed 15 pounds of cocaine. One trooper was quoted as saying "He was high man". Mike can you correct this as well?

Ya know, that could almost be a viable format for 105.7. Unfortunately for that, they showed a miniscule-enough gain the last couple of books for Ken and Hy to keep the current format. The Decatur transmitter doesn't help reel in much of the black audience that adores smooth jazz (but hey, they're already extending their dipoles to pull in KRNB anyway, right?) and the older, affluent fogies who use smooth jazz as background and easy-chair music could pull it in easily from their comfy digs in the northern counties.

A skilled programmer is a must. We haven't had one seasoned in smooth jazz here since Bret Michael. Wonder if Hy could drag Bret out of graduate school for a radio comeback? But it's not a tough thing to do...easy on the Kenny G and put SELECT vocals in the mix (Sade and Anita Baker, etc) and an occasional soft R&B oldie ballad like "What You Won't Do for Love" by Bobby Caldwell.

I don't think Service would pay Lynn properly to be on a signally-challenged station, tho. But she is missed!

You are correct. Per his Dallas county tax records it is indeed "Hyman". It was a slip of the keys.

No R&B on a Smooth Jazz station...be what you say you are.

The problem with KRNB is they don't know what they want to be. they are old school one minute, a mix of old and new another minute and then strictly new school. Once they figure that out... and get rid of Ron Chavios, then they might be viable. Or what they could do is make the 730 a black talk station and put all the music shows on Soul 73 on KRNB.

Signal problems and inconsistency are the biggest problems KRNB has. People are afraid to start listening, because you never know when Service is going to come around and "tweak" it and it really pi$$es you off. It has been a huge disappointment, because both K104 and KKDA-AM have been fairly consistant over the years. Sure, K104 has made many "adjustments" that a lot of us are not happy about, but I'm talking about overall presentation and staffing. If they would just decide on something with KRNB, stick with it, and promote the hell out of it, they should be ok. These constant changes though, with that signal, are the kiss of death.

I can't remember if I suggested this format for this station or not, but KBLX/San Francisco is almost a UAC/Smooth Jazz hybrid. They play a nice blend of Smooth R&B currents/recurrents/golds and mix in the Smooth Jazz (kind of what "Smooth Jazz" stations are doing now, without the AC and the Oldies  ) It's a great station and the ratings are decent (a whole lot better than what KRNB is doing now). I think it has great potential.
