Severin Out - Graham In

Re: Speculation Overrun

Perhaps so. I've just been growing tired of "well, if this is happening, this has to be happening as well, of course X company would never do that" speculation that runs rampant on these boards. (And I admit to practicing it at times myself on some of these boards. I try to, these days, at least label it rather clearly if I am getting out on those limbs without much factual support.)

The record stands right now that they are saying they're hiring Graham to do a local, Boston-based afternoon drive show, and that if they clear Severin's new show, it will be 7-10 PM local time. They could be blowing smoke or whatnot, but it seems rather silly to announce you're gonna hire in a new afternoon show host and move him to Boston, then not do it two months later.

As I mentioned on another thread, their statements clearly indicate that Graham will move to town and that Severin's presence on the station will be only with his new national show in an evening slot, if they pick it up. If both are wrong by January, well, then I'd side with you above.

IIRC, Infinity is directly syndicating Severin to its own stations (unless WTKK gets him), sidestepping Westwood One.

If Laura Ingraham gets bumped for an early evening Severin, that would make the two top midday talkers out of work in Boston. Mike Gallagher would be on but Glenn Beck and Laura Ingraham wouldn't! I suppose WTTT would pick up Ingraham like they've always wanted to.

Quasi-related:
Is it just me, or is 96.9 trying to be WMSNBC? They make a big deal out of it on the website, and what with Imus, Barnicle, and Severin on, they seem to have quite the cable news feel. Of course, O'Reilly and Hannity are cable newsy for obvious reasons. If they were local in the morning like they should be (and it wouldn't be hard to beat BZ, RKO, KOXKS, TTT in the entertainment department), they could bring in Beck to save us from the midday madness at TKK. Just a thought. Hey, at least they found a decent, creative alternative for overnights.
