SEVERIN RETURNS

afternoons on WXKS-AM.

Thoughts?

Adam who?

When does Jay start?

From a tweet by Talk 1200:

JUST ANNOUNCED: @Jay_Severin signs with Talk 1200! Tune in weekdays from 3 - 6 p.m. starting this Thursday, Aug. 18

Jay Severin tweets:
>>SPECIAL to Boston B+B May I humbly suggest you absolutely make sure to see tomorrow's edition of The Boston Herald? P.S.Thank you.Love You.

Wow, this station is desperate for listeners. Too bad, I think they've done a fairly good job on what I imagine must be a very tight budget. Severin may make good points from time to time, but listening to him speak gives me migraines. Not a threat in the slight, anymore, to Howie Carr.

Wonder if Howie winds in in pm drive at WTKK (sorry, Doug Meehan) when his RKO contract ends? Or will that station be worth it by then? (He'd love AM drive but they have
Jim 'n' Magpie now)

btw I think the "kid" mentioned was Andy Dean, whom they just added (syndie by Premiere
I believe) 7-10 pm. Has a young voice. Who gets squeezed out--him or Levin? I think they're
hinting Hannity is still part of the lineup. I think they do a Rush replay at 6 pm...

He was OK early on, but over time he became a one trick pony who became way too full of himself. If he picks up where he left off 16th in his time slot will be an acheivement. If he changes his act significantly he has a sliver of a shot.

In 2000 I was a HUGE fan of Jay Severin's and it was through him that I discovered and fell in love with talk radio. That being said, Jay's had his ups and downs, and I've been with him and not when the "I was right" or "I was saying it before anybody else" or "the _NATURE_ and the _MAGNITUDE_" -- got to be too much to handle. But like him or hate him, he's VERY talented, and his ups have been FAR longer than his downs. I would love to work with him.

For those who find him too "ascerbic" (like Red Mass Group -- http://www.redmassgroup.com/diary/12672/ascerbic-host-jay-severin-back-on-the-air-in-boston --), simple solution: Don't listen.

For the rest of us, we'll be happy to have him on (...and not be bored).

In addition: on Thursday Howie Carr will NOT be in and Colonel Hunt will be filling-in, so Jay's return should have a strong start. Avi Nelson is in for Howie on Friday. Meehan...well, I met once, seems like a nice guy, and on radio is just TOO nice for me on radio.

Does anyone think that Clear Channel's hiring of Jay Severin is actually part of a larger plan by the company. Clear Channel has little or no overlap (in the core market areas) between most of their AM stations in Providence, Worcester, Springfield, and Manchester, NH. Perhaps they plan on syndicating Seevrin's show throughout their New England cluster to save more money and get the most "bang for their buck" in hiring Jay.

I think Dan S mentioned that possibility on boston-radio-interest. Could happen but you never know. The var. other stations may just run Hannity etc. I thought there was a poss.
they could syndie Jeff Katz to Prov, Worc, Manchester etc but that hasn't happened--but each station has their own morning show. However they may give it a shot with Jay.

btw is Jay's agent (George Tobia?) same as Howie's? Wonder if Howie will try to get on 96.9
when his contract ends (may stick with RKO for all we know)

I don't what kind of ratings Rush gets or Jay will get but if they do OK in billing, it may work out for them. btw note that CC has 2 local hosts on Talk 1200...in the days of prog
talk they didn't have any (_daily_). Then again 1200 has an improved signal now (for some)
and CC is committed to their Premiere hosts getting cleared. It looks like they will stay talk/conserv talk for some time now, so those who predicted an early exit for what was once Rush Radio (as in
"back to Rumba" or "back to progressive talk") are sure to be disappointed.

OK we do have the updated schedule via Talk 1200 page:

3-6 pm Jay Severin
6p - 9p Sean Hannity
9p - 12m Mark Levin

Andy Dean, gone

I was a fan of Severin's until he had Jane Swift on his show, who prior to Urklel, was the most incompetent governor in history, after she was bumped by Romney, and he told her that he thought she could have become president some day. He completely lost me when his show went national and all he could talk about was Asian women and Katie Couric's breasts.

This guy has a serious problem with women. He looks in the mirror and sees Tom Cruise looking back at him. To hear him talk you'd think he was a combination of Wilt Chamberlain and Tiger Woods rolled into one. He's definitely a legend in his own mind.

I'm afraid CC would be hesitant to put 1200's talkers on either of its FMs as they get good ratings and billing with them doing music. Then again this sort of thing is happening in diff. cities across the country with (weaker-performing) music stations simulcasting talk, news,
and/or sports stations.

That sounds right on target.

I doubt they would do it because if he tanks he tanks his time slot on all of their stations. Remenber, at TKK he was number 16 in his slot. I stopped listening then and I'm not going back. The Herald said he only received one order. Be yourself. Until the end when he was on a short leash he played nice and you could tell he hated being nice to callers. He dropped to 16 by hanging up or calling callers idiots, and that is when he was being himself.

And what kind of numbers is Sean Hannity pulling in?

I don't know, but does it matter what Hannity's numbers are if he tanks on multiple stations? You put all of your eggs into one basket and you get what you get. This guy has proven that he is good at offering up a crap sandwich. If that is what you want to risk, go for it.
