Shakeup at KEOM?

im all about the nights/weekends programming concept:

6a-6p M-F: All the seals & croft, loggins & messina and Minnie Ripperton you can shake a stick at
6p-Mid M-F: Student/community programming (Similar to KNON)
Overnights: Pre-recorded shows of the day/night before
All day sat-sun: Same as above

I think if you're a taxpayer or resident of mesquite, you should also have at least a 1/2 or an opportunity to use the faculity within normal allowed decorum (No cursing, no stupidity) I also think if you're going to put a show on there, you should also seek your own underwriting, similar to what other non-profs do. Also, Griffin needs to be away from the mic for good. I dont care if it involves a ball gag and duct tape, he should not be allowed to speak. lastly, get with the times, stream your station on the web, if KNON can do it, you most certainly can make an attempt.

I'm betting on that long-awaited switch to 80s, myself.

Man, I hope not. It's the only good music station left to listen to. :-[

But let’s face it: most of the talk on KEOM is a punchout. Is there anyone, outside of family and friends, who listens to KEOM for anything but the music? Okay, I admit being fascinated by the cheesy PSAs and syndicated programs (a la “Hoof, Paw, Fin and Claw” or whatever it’s called), but whenever anyone cracks the mic I’m out. That includes Dr. James Griffin, whose voice makes fingernails on a chalkboard sound like Vivaldi.

I agree and disagree on two things:

1) I disagree about only family and friends the only listeners. MANY busineses I run into have KEOM on in their stores. They not only enjoy the music and local news but can be safe in knowing they won't be playing music offensive to their customers.

Also there is a difference between a KNTU and a KEOM. KEOM is funded by MESQUITE TAXPAYERS!! KNTU is funded by students that pay to go to the school. I think the Tp's would be complaining highly if the students have a Goth show running or something else.

The dean at 5UV St Adeliade college in Australlia has a rule: Classical when school is in session and student programming on the weekends. Maybe a slight bend?

2) I agree that Dr. Griffin is not that great. He may be a great superindendent but a lousy Operations Manager. Too much ego me thinks! As we say in the business, we may have a face for radio but the good Dr. has a voice for small reel to reel tapes you send back to your family from your Naval post in Okinawa!

And BTW, Yea I'm a taxpayer! ::)

BGH

Umm.. 2 things.. KNTU is run by a state funded school meaning that taxpayers most certainly do pay some of the bills there.
Also, Dr. Griffin retired. Peggy Brooks is now the station manager there.

And taxpayers in Austin do not care what KNTU runs on their station. Meaning that Mesquite residents are more likely to call about KEOM than any other stations.
