SHERWOOD SCHWARTZ DIES AT 94

I MESSED THAT UP............. Alan Hale was in the westerns, not Bob Denver.
Don't type when it's close to bed time.

No biggie. Bob was in the popular series "Dobie Gillis" before G.I.

One footnote: Can anyone note any sitcom that has gone on to be part of the tv culture as much as Gilligan did in just three years? If someone would have asked me how long this series lasted, I would have answered 5 seasons atleast. But, no, just three seasons. This might have been mentioned earlier, but Sherwood wrote the theme to the show.

"The Munsters" & "The Addams Family" each ran 2 seasons, and they've squeezed out a lot in culture. I read that both shows debuted AND ended on the same exact date.

Although not a live action sitcom, "The Jetsons" ran incessantly in reruns for over 20 years, in only 24 episodes, before the cast was reunited in 1985 for 41 more episodes to strip the series (iow, run 5 days a week).

I am sure there are more, but maybe that's good fodder for another thread....

I'd prefer a Gilligan marathon, but not sure if TVland has rights.

I don't believe any network has the rights to Gilligan's Island, and it's been at least five years since TV Land last carried it. I'm not sure if Warner Brothers took the show of syndication or what, but AOL's In2TV service (I believe) still carries the show.
I think The Hallmark Channel was the last cable network to have the rights to GILLIGAN'S ISLAND after TV Land but it has been awhile.

Now that I think about it, you're right...I do remember seeing a couple of Gilligan's Island episodes one late night not long after it left the TV Land schedule. One good thing about Hallmark...at least it's not infomercial hell overnights like most other networks.

Not quite. Munsters was Thu 7:30/6:30 and Addams was Fri 8:30/7:30.
They debuted almost a week apart and LTCed a day apart.

How about all those gadget things they pon? The latest seems to be something like
a snake or sock tube. You put it between your seat and the gear shift to keep your
coins, french fries and junk from falling down that space. Where do they come up
with this stuff?

I could have sworn Sherwood Schwartz died year ago.
...perhaps you're thinking of Sidney Sheldon (The Patty Duke Show, I Dream of Jeannie), who died in 2007?...

Trivia: Alan called Barney Fife his "Little Buddy" in one "Andy Griffith Show" episode before he ever did "Gilligan".

Bob was on the show too, but he was terrible. He played Charlene Darling's husband, who tried to beat up Andy or whoever it was he thought was trying to steal her, and the "boys" put him outside. Where he belonged. The original Dud Wash was much better, and taller.
