Should DAVE go the way of JACK?

I think Dave will move sooner than the availability of Steve McCoy. Vicki said she is staying through her contract that expires inDec 2007. If Steve has the same contrac t wouldn't that tie him up for another 6 months after that.

I don't see them waiting around a year to make a change on the chance of getting Steve McCoy.

Another thing to consider in terms of a format flip at DAVE; Paying Mara. The last time that 92.9 flipped (Z to DAVE) Mara, who has a great contract, was sitting at home for six weeks getting paid to watch The Price Is Right. If DAVE were to flip to a format not geared towards Mara's strengths (Rock, Cheese or Klezmer) they would have to buy her out. I am sure Norm Schrutt, her agent, wrote the contract so that Mara gets a nice payday if she leaves. Mara is the identity of the frequency. If the new format is in her wheelhouse, than she stays, if not, she goes and costs CBS some more coin as she exits Colony Square.

That said, when I take over as PD of 92.9, Mara a) stays put, b) is allowed to be herself, unlike what she was told by Michelle Engel, c) will remain the identity of 92.9 and will still have the highest Q at the station. Heck if she wants, she can have little Charlie come in and spin the Wiggles on Sunday mornings.

Here we go again with Millman. I think it's rather funny that you would comment about something you (and most everyone else on the earth) knows anything about. You can't, with any shred of credibility give one bit of info about Mara's contract. Do you know if it's guaranteed or non guaranteed? No. Do you know if there is a so called "buy out" clause? No. Also, remember that Barnes got his contract paid out for a solid year, and, I can assure you, at a very sizeable number. Do you think for a minute if they had no compunction about making that change given the size of his contract, that they wouldn't do the same with Mara is CBS decided to make a major change? Think again.

Now, I do think that Mara is very talented and is extremely good at what she does. And, I would be willing to wager that she will be around. This is also given the fact that I believe there will be no format change. I'm sure that some of the music selection will change, but you aren't going to see them go to Hot AC or Rythmic or Classic Rock again or any of that.

You want to talk about wasted talent over there for the past few years.... It isn't Mara, because she at least got to pretty much do her thing in a great daypart given where she is in her life right now (the kid and whatnot). It's Margot. Lest we all forget that Margot was a helluva programmer before she came to Dave and was one of the few woman PD's on the rock world that put up some really big ratings numbers at her previous stations. She also knows more about music that all of us put together, and (I'm crossing my fingers) that Mr. Wheeler will give her (as the Music Director) the lattitude to do what she does best. Since she never got a chance to do any of that when Michelle was running the ship

But, back to the original point, if you think CBS would make a format decision because of something associated with their midday jock's contract, I've got some land you might be interested in.... But I guess that's what happens when you armchair QB radio decision when you don't have any experience in the industry.

Alright, Slider, put the whip back up. I think Neil's had enough. :D

I'll second, third, and fourth that! Margot is the most under rated talent in this market. On the air, and behind the scenes. I really do hope she gets a shot under the new PD to do what she does. Cause she does it very well. Even though I'm not holding my breath I'm also hoping that they bring back "Dave After Tomorrow". I really miss that show. Hell, under a new name, and with the right production they could syndicate it, and should!
