BJordan said:@ Kilamanjero I read somewhere that Power 106 refused to play that record by 2Pac called Hit Em Up in 1996 along with a few other Hip Hop songs because the indecent content. Remember that fiasco?
I moved to my iPhone & KDAY for my 90's and early 2000's fix. It's true 10 years from now Drake, Nicki Minaj and Lil' Wayne will be somewhere smoked out on the street corner.Button Pusher said:BJordan said:Power 106 will always be my station to listening to after a long brutal day.
Funny...i thought I would always listen to Power too. But, like everyone else in here, we got older, and moved on to other stations. Remember BJordan...Todays Music, are tomorrows Oldies! Didn't someone use that as a jingle?
I'm a 90's child but I'm so old school. Soujah Boy will see the same fate in about 10 years so will Pit Bull and Chris Brown. Oops I forgot Chris Brown has already screwed up his carrer so I wouldn't be suprised. Trust Me Power 106 will move to the next best thing in 2021. 2001-2002 was the Hip Hop/R&B fad. Now it's Pop Hop. Who knows maybe the real hip hop will make a comeback. just a thought.wdb2003 said:LOL where did that come from smoked out. I think you were born in the wrong decade
BJordan said:@Kilamanjero That was in the 90's. But now in 2011 it won't fly on Power 106. All those songs I've mentioned from 1997-98 were getting mad spins on 92.3 The Beat as well. But 92.3 The Beat at that time played more R&B such as Jon B. They Don't Know, Kelly Price Friend Of Mine, Brandy & Monica The Boy Is Mine Usher Nice & Slow and Next Too Close as well as Butta Love & I Still Love You.
I remember when Power 106 tried the reggaeton format in like 2005-06 in the wake Latino 96.3. got on my nerve.kilamanjero said:Yeah, I've always seen KPWR as a "fad" station that follows trends in the rhythmic/urban categories. Most urban-leaning rhythmics and some urbans like the old KKBT, KMEL/San Francisco, and WEDR/Miami spun dance music in the early to mid 90s along with "gangsta" rap then shifted to R&B/Hip-Hop by the late 90s. KPWR will be on another fad within the next 5 years and people will be like WTF at it's changes.
It sounded like format take over to me. Not only Power 106 was doing it but 100.3 The Beat was. They actually started playing reggaeton in the summer of 2004 when reggaeton went mainstream.wdb2003 said:They never did a reggaeton format. Power just played hits from Daddy Yankee and others thats all. It was a blooming sound not really a format takeover. Only stations that I can think of that did the format were in Riverside, Pheniox, Dallas, Houston and New York City. None of them took off. They all flipped to either Rythnmic CHR, or Spanish Pop. Ohhh and Los Angeles I forgot.
Of course Power 106 will win the crown. They knocked KJLH down a few notches in the 80's then their was The Beat and Power 106 knocked them out. KIIS-FM has stopped playing hip hop fulltime to focus on mainstream pop because of KPWR now there is AMP Radio. Will see who surrenders. Stay tuned. I'm loving every minute of the ol' skool and new mixes.blazin2009 said:power 106 is now mixing ol skool and new skool on there caliente u mixes they are competing against amp radio so far power is doing a good job beating amp radio for the winning title good job power 106 amp sucks radio since they came on no mixshows or mixers. power 106 going to win the crown.
I know because Power 106 plays Ne-Yo's Because Of You and So Sick. Did Power 106 show love to Sweetest Thing By Lauryn Hill in 1997?wdb2003 said:Maybe its because Chris Brown is one of Power's core artist. They played Duces despite the rap part and Neyo's slow hits pop up every now and then
