Should Power 106 play more R&B yes or no?

I concider old school on Power when Madonna,Rick Astley and all the rest of the Freestyle was being played.

Well Movin played them for a brief year when they first started. Ratings never took off but it was a fun station to listen too.

I know because Power 106 plays Ne-Yo's Because Of You and So Sick. Did Power 106 show love to Sweetest Thing By Lauryn Hill in 1997?

Im not sure if Power played it

Correction Consider. What I considered old school on Power 106 is 2Pac Lil Kim Junior Mafia Notorious B.I.G. Snoop Dogg Tha Dogg Pound Ice Cube Bone Thugs N Harmony Master P Out Kast Foxy Brown Busta Rhymes Brandy Mase LL Cool J and Lauryn Hill that's the Hip Hop Power 106 would play. You have your musical tastes and I have mine.

I think she was referring to Power back in the late 80's and early part of 90's. Before their ghetto Hip Hop phase. When they had a true rythnmic dance sound. Freestyle is very popular towards hispanics during that time. Madonna was the GaGa of the 80's and 90's and her music got airplay on Rythnmic radio during that time Go to youtube and look at the old Power 106 commerical and youll hear a different sound.

Your correct..Expose,Will to power and all the freestyle is old school Power 106.Boris And Chris Mixes shure outbeats any mixer on Power today.Thats how Power 106 use to sound before the change to hip hop.Even before house music..

Remember the Auqanet Set on Friday @ Noon as part of the old school show? That's the only I remember hearing Freestyle music. They played Look out weekend by Debbie Dev. They had Westcoast Wednsday etc. Goodtimes.

<<< Back then in the 80s Power was completly different from any other station you hear now.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=afcVqu6CZ7w As for more R&B..NO..Take Power 106 back to its roots and bring back The Boomer Joe Servantes.Go more old school and play some freestyle dance as well. >>>

Okay so when are you going to add more of these on youtube...like you promised you would...

I gotta admit Power 106 did sound listenable in the late 80's. They were going against KJLH at the time and of course KJLH is now on life support. Do you have any Airchecks from the 90's when they were going against KKBT? If you do upload them ASAP ;)

I wish Power would tweak their sound to the way it was in the early 90's and 80's , only more updated... Bring back the top of the hour ID and everything.
They can still play Hip hop along with pop and dance (now thats its making a comeback)...

They some what tweaked their sound but it's back to Hip Hop & R&B. I love their Rhythmic Dance hits Such as Back Seat by New Boyz Party Rock Anthem, etc. But I'm too accustomed to their Hip Hop & R&B sound but hey music is music.

Power 106 played Ray J Wait A Minute in 2001. That was a Hip Hop influence R&B so I can see them playing that. He had another hit that year called Formal Invite featuring Pharell. Those were Ray J's only Top 40 hits in my book. The only song by Ray J Power 106 has in rotation is Sexy Can I and 143 by Bobby Brackins Feat Ray J. 100.3 The Beat gave Wait A Minute mad spins and Formal Invite as well too. Remember that song?

@wdb2003 I can't stand Chris Brown's stupid behind right now. You heard what he did in NY on Tuesday. He busted a window and took off his shirt in anger because of Robin Roberts asking him about his incident with Rihanna. He should've told her to change the subject. He already screwed over his career over Rihanna. They need to ban his records from Rhythmics, Urban AC and Urban Contemporary again. That blonde hair makes him look retarded as hell. It was already tried by Dennis Rodman & Sisqo in the 90's. Hit me up with your thoughts on Chris Brown.

They never did a reggaeton format. Power just played hits from Daddy Yankee and others thats all. It was a blooming sound not really a format takeover. Only stations that I can think of that did the format were in Riverside, Pheniox, Dallas, Houston and New York City. None of them took off. They all flipped to either Rythnmic CHR, or Spanish Pop. Ohhh and Los Angeles I forgot.
@wdb2003 I tend to hear my favorite NB RIDAZ record on Latino 96.3. That's a beautiful rap ballad with R&B infleunce. I'm talking about Lost In Love from 1998. I still hear it on KGGI great lyrics.

Power 106 also played Miss Independent & Champange Life also has a life outside of hip hop somewhat.

Chris Brown, Neyo, Usher and Trey Songz are the new r&b of today or whatever you wanna call it despite their pop dance hits on CHR radio. Do you think people still wanna hear the same songs over and over from the 90's. We are in a new decade of music. Power won the battle by default so their is no need for them to compete. KAMP is somewhat their rival and thats it. KIIS is more mainstream now THANK GOD. KXOL is on life support and KDAY caters the Southbay and Riverside. Yeah it would be nce to hear more r&b but it appeals to the kiddies first. R&B is also at a all time low. You should trying contacting the PD and maybe youll get some feedback if they respond.
KXOL sounds ok it's KIIS that is on life support. When KAMP falls to their and Power 106 wins which always ends up happening. Who is Power going to sound like KJLH? KDAY? KHHT? confused as heck. Hit me up?

Power 106 is sounding like it did in the late 90's and early 2000's. They just played Chris Brown No Bull and that's a slow R&B song. I'm loving the new power music. They're now playing Lloyd Banks Don't Deserve You ft Jerimiah love that song. Don't Deserve You has a 90's rap ballad feel if you ask me.

@Kilamanjero That was in the 90's. But now in 2011 it won't fly on Power 106. All those songs I've mentioned from 1997-98 were getting mad spins on 92.3 The Beat as well. But 92.3 The Beat at that time played more R&B such as Jon B. They Don't Know, Kelly Price Friend Of Mine, Brandy & Monica The Boy Is Mine Usher Nice & Slow and Next Too Close as well as Butta Love & I Still Love You.

This post tells me you CLEARLY dont understand musical trends. Sure at the moment "sappy R&B" may not work on Power 106 but go back in time 4-5 years ago when artists like Yung Joc were at the top of the charts, if I had told you dance music would rule the charts you would have laughed. Music goes through cycles, as much as I would like it to, this dance fad will not last forever.
I was even listening to Power 106 when they played Young Joc It's Goin Down and that was 2006 so that tells you that I remember when Power 106 lean heavily on Hip Hop & R&B they didn't go back to playing rhythmic pop on the regular until 2008 as memory serves. Nothing last forever. We've been through many musical trends in the past 20 years such as New Jack swing gansta rap,etc now there is "pop hop".

Nope, it was 2005 when they rejoined the Billboard Rhythmic panel.
