Should someone try Rhythmic AC or Active Rock here?

I see two format holes that need to be filled in Indy, and we would pretty much have it all. Im not sure why 104.5 or 93.9 didnt try Rhythmic AC or Active Rock instead of trying to be clones of other stations already in the market. I think 104.5 should have tried Rhythmic AC when they realized Jack wasnt working, its still the same target demo and they wouldnt be competing against Heritage WFBQ. Also, 93.9 should have went with an Active Rock format to take on both WRZX and WFBQ. What do you guys think? Are these options that were overlooked, or is it better to stick to the tried and true formats. I dont see Warm 93.9 competing with 105.7 on that weak Northern Signal. I really think WJJK will end up losing even more in the next book since they took away the imaging and made it sound bland.

This is not the best market for rhythmic AC. 107.9 already does something like a rhythmic ac/gold format. What would a new rhythmic ac play? Not many ac stations actually play much new music. Is the "movin" format working anywhere?

Hell no.

Emmis is especially failing with Rhythmic AC in LA, where we already have 4-5 stations playing Let's Groove Tonight and You Dropped A Bomb On Me.

It's not just Emmis failing with it, San Francisco, St Louis, Dallas, and Phoenix aren't seeing any traction. Only Seattle had success and many say that was due to the CHR not being on it's toes, and that has been corrected.

If you already have a station playing enough Old Skool music, then the audience is happy with that. Any More stations and you just dillute the product.

Now Active Rock, that does make more sense. It would shake up X103 and even put Q95 on alert, but Cumulus probably just took the safe road and went after B. Will it work? Debatable, but Cumulus probably wants to keep costs down.

Well! Looks like WNTR (The Track) has about the lowest ratings in Indianapolis history for a Class B.
2.6, is about half of what they had as WTPI. Suspect they will be dropping the disco soon.

So, are you saying the death of WTPI was premature? Did Entercom gain anything by changing formats, or did they just pick the wrong one, or are they just doing it wrong?

Well, I think The Track 107.9 is suffering from an identity Crisis. They are stradling the line right now between a Rhythmic AC and a true Variety Hits station. I think they need to make up their mind and go one way or another. I think 107.9 should probably ease off the disco, and add some more POP/Rock Currents, maybe something like Movin 101.1 in Saint Louis is doing. The St Louis movin station is basically a rhythmic friendly Hot AC now, but they play alot more currents and arent afraid to play the POP/Rock tracks as well. I think this is what The Track needs to do is be a Hot AC/Rhythmic AC Hybrid instead of a Variety Hits Rhythmic AC Hybrid. Indy doesnt have a true Hot AC now, WZPL is basically a mild CHR with a Rock Lean,,, so 107.9 should be a Hot AC with a Rhythmic lean like Movin in St Louis.... Another option would be a more CHR current leaned Variety Hits station like NINE FM in Chicago, but that station is probably a bad role model since they usually book a double 0 in the Chicago arbs, part of that problem is the signal is so weak and doesnt cover the whole market.

Another reason the Track was doing bad, was because they were competing with Jack in the past, but not much now since they have become a Classic Rock station. The Tracks numbers will probably be up slightly in the next few books, if not, I could see them flipping the station to Hot AC or Active Rock. We really havent had a real Hot AC since WENS signed off to Hank FM

Rhythmic AC is the new Jack FM (read: fad format). You will never hear of it again in another year or two.

Active rock, now, that could be a different story.

Active rock for The Track might be fine. Grandma's old disco won't even entertain grandma
today! Anything else please! Who's the PD? Who is playing theiir favorite music? The have bad taste!
If a consultant recommended this? He should be fired!

Indy needs more radio for the younger croud. I just hear about grandma or grandpa music.

Don't you kids have ipods and computers to listen to? Do you young people even know what radios are?

Self-fufilling prophecy.

I'm not even in Indy, and I heard lots of people talking about Radio Now being blown up. There were multiple Facebook groups on the topic.

They do and they for the most part don't like what they're hearing.  That's why they're turning to iPods and streaming. They know there are too many corporate suits who are trying to play DJ.

Indy needs modern rock, I know all of the clusters want to cater to the female demo. But what station sells to the younger male demo. X just doesn't cut it. As far as Rhythmic AC i agree it is just a trend format like Jack and won't work here. Movin in St Louis and the Nine Format in Chicago that was mentioned are rated in the bottom 5 of thier respected market.Indy also doesn't have as broad a demo as STL or CHI for a Rhythmic AC. Anyone remember that horrible ENS format pre hank that busted. Rythmic just won't work here. Besides you can never go wrong with rock or country in good ol Indiana, well unless your Jack or KLU.

Also Indy is in ned of a good rock station, it may be hard to bill at first but Clear Channel has clearly left a void that needs to be filled. Indy needs something new and cutting edge, not another boring AC or Classic Hits. I don't know about you guys but besides the IBC/Radio Now/Fan switch all of the other switches around here in the last five years has been pretty bland.

Rhythmic AC? No. Urban AC? Yes. Something to compete with WHHH.

Active Rock? Yes yes yes yes yes. X103 had some potential a long time ago but has completely lost its edge. I can't stand hearing the same songs every single hour with some Metallica thrown in. I believe there's an excellent market for good alternative rock from the 90's-Present.

There is an urban ac already. It's WTLC-FM, and they do well. The biggest target now is HHH, but they have 100.9 standing by to block for them.

Couldn't be as bad in indy as here in louisville. Nothing new here to listen to well okay yesterday way fm signed on now there is 4 christian rock stations to listen to yah!!!At least you are seeing flips noone does that here nothing new here in quite some time at least the suits tease you there when they blow a station up and there is always the chance of something different. I personally want an alternative station here in louisville all we have here is a triple a which is decent but something to balance it out. We have this god awful wannabe so called alt station that tries to marry active/alt which never works. Radio one sold them to mainline hopefully mainline will blow them up soon. Someone listening to modest mouse does not want to hear seether or metallica.

WTTS is pretty good i think but good luck guys and gals getting some cool tuneage up north!!!
