Should WWDB-AM drop Imus?

Should WWDB 860 AM (business format) drop Imus in the morning because of the racial remarks by Imus calling the Rutgers women's basketball team "nappy-headed hos? WWDB carry his show from the time they sign on until 9 AM Monday-Friday I think. WWDB is a daytime station. If you want to contact WWDB-AM and suggest that they should, click on this link: http://www.wwdbam.com/index.php?page=4

Wait until winter and the problem will be half-solved.

No way. It was a joke, a tasteless remark, but an attempt at humor nonetheless. Yesterday, other NYC talk hosts were "joking" using the same phrase throughout their shows. So get over it.

Our finesest have left their blood on battlefields all over the world for his right to say that. Freedom of speech is gone. How does the quote go?...I don't agree with what you're saying, but I'll give my li8fe defending your right to say it"

It was stupid for him and McGuirk to say that on air.

But I feel he's being crucified for the same things Chris Rock says on his narration on "Everbody Hates Chris" on Ch57. Why does Rock get a pass on being a racist. How about Farakahn. How about Rev Jackson's hatred of the Jews and his Hymietown comments. Jackson's illigitimate daughter was hidden for years. Free pass. Rev Sharpton wants "the Jews to know that if they want to pick a fight with him, they should pin back their yarmulkes and come over to his house". Free pass. Hip-Hop and Rap lyrics from NWA ( No Whites Allowed) spewing hatred and violence are defended as free speach.

I'm fed up with the hypocracy of the politically correct. The rest of us see through your arrogance, and ignorance.

NO.

It was a dumb remark that was in the context of Imus' typically crotchety style. In fact, it's a ridiculous commentary on the present state of our society that he has gotten tarred and feathered to the extent that he has. If Chappell or Chris Rock said the same thing, everyone would find it hilarious. This form of societal censorship is dangerous.

Frankly, I watched some of the game and the Rutgers women did look 'ghetto' - because of the behaviour, tattoos and hairstyles. Not because of skin color. Had they all been white, a similar comment would have probably been made. Most of the Tennessee team was black too - but they looked more clean cut and appeared more "professional" (for lack of a better word). That's some of the context that's been forgotten here.

That being said, Imus has been in the business forever and should know to be more careful when it comes to pushing the envelope (which I don't think he even thought he was doing). A short suspension should be enough. To me, even 2 weeks seems excessive for this. It was bad judgement, pure and simple.

Speaking of bad judgement, why did he choose to go on with Al Sharpton? Al is a guy who has made even more flamingly racist remarks and has no right to call the kettle black! He's a total hypocrite.

By the way, I am not a fan of Imus and didn't even know he could be heard in this area. I've heard his schtick over the years, but haven't found him to be amusing in about 20 years. But, I think that this has gotten out of hand.

Imus will have to pay for his racist insensitive remarks. When you are getting paid the salary he earns, he is responsible for the content. How can he ever face the public again after insulting those hard working college girls. These are someones children out there. These are some of the best ball players in the nation, and to have to listen to remarks about their character like that!

No its not a joke when someone suffers from it. Imus must pay. This isn't the first time. He insulted Gwen Ifill, from PBS, when she was covering the White House, he said that they have the maid covering the white house beat. He is a racist pig, and must pay!

You're right! In fact, I think we should throw him in jail for what he said. After all, he's a "racist pig", right? In fact, ANY speech that displeases a protected group - even in a collateral way - should be a felony. Toss those racists, homophobes and anyone else who disagrees with political correctness in jail. Take away their right to make a living. After all, they're bastards! RUIN THEM. Yep, I agree with you.

Forgiveness for murderers and rapists, but not for those who dare say something that's not PC. Especially about the Rutgers womens basketball team, who are clearly the epitomy of sugar and spice and all that's nice. Perhaps the gallows would be in order for Imus. Because its the only thing that will satisfy certain people with certain dangerous agendas.

To all of you who are amused with this, just remember that today it's Imus' turn, maybe tomorrow it's yours.....

Would not get a thing

I frankly find most commercial talk radio tasteless. Best way to rid the airwaves of him is to render him impotent -- go listen to something else.

Someone said that the founding Fathers must be rolling in their graves. Hey they were a bunch of Racist, slave owning bastards. How would their opinion on this matter be relevant!

Perhaps you would be happier elsewhere, then?

Anyone remember when Imus walked out on a scheduled remote in Scranton a few years back? He got "mad" and went back to New York because someone at the hotel desk wouldn't put a call through to him, it turned out to be his wife calling (she ended up calling him on his cell phone). So he went back to New York and did his show from the station, leaving his on-air people and MSNBC up in the air! The station had brought in everything for the people who wanted to come see him (yes, all the seats were taken) plus food was brought in, as well as the 'certain items' Imus wanted suppled, certain water, gum, etc. The station PD called Imus and said he did something 'very unprofessional' and he proceded to blast everything from Scranton and calling the PD "a snot nose brat" right on the air. VERY professional! The station ended up yanking his show off, never to be heard after that (they brought in back once, at the request of a local political 'figure' but it went away again a few months later). If they wanted to do something about Imus, something should have been done 6 years ago! Now I hope Sharpton is ready to dance when he starts with his racial cracks, if he wants equal treatment then heres his chance. Now you know why the Imus 'remotes' went away! (It cost someone ALOT of money, the station billed them for EVERYTHING!)

WWDB doesn't even show up in arbitron. Is it because they don't subscribe to it, or because no one is listening? Or both?

Step back into reality. Imus is a shock jock. He, like all the rest, gets paid to be broadcast hour upon hour of wasted time. They pander to the bottomfeeders. That's their audience. Did he say anything we haven't heard from numerous other sources? Of course not. Scan the FM music dial and you'll hear much worse. It's laughable that there would be an outrage over his comments when you compare what he said with the lyric content.

Let's try dialing back the ol' hyperbole machine.

This has nothing to do with what our finest have or haven't done, because this isn't a Constitutional issue--it's a contractual one. Imus is an employee of CBS, and it's their call what they do or don't want on their station.
I can't think of any employer I've ever worked for that wouldn't have (justifiably) fired me on the spot if I used racial slurs "on the clock."

Had Imus been acting as a private citizen, speaking outside of his show-related duties, then I, too, would defend his right to say whatever he wants. But CBS, NBC and the stations that carry the show have the right of free speech here--Imus doesn't have carte blanche, no matter what he's been allowed to say in the past without being suspended, or perhaps worse.

This is no different than the Dixie Chicks issue. Station owners exercised their right to decide if they did or didn't want to play Chicks songs, and listeners were free to apply pressure whichever way they wanted. There was no violation of anyone's free speech rights.

I just called Tim Halloran, Operations Manager at 860 AM and told him that WWDB-AM should drop Imus from their program schedule. Tim Halloran has gotten a lot of calls about this. If you want to suggest that WWDB-AM drop this program from their schedule, go to this link: http://www.wwdbam.com/index.php?page=4
