Sid Rosenberg on 560 WQAM

Just heard Sid on QAM. It's great to have him back in the market. When does LeBetard make the move across the street and complete the trifecta?

Just saw that Kevin Rogers landed on his feet and is on at 10PM. Another Ticket casualty.

Sid sounds better than ever...and he's had some great guests so far. Wonder if 790 has any regrets about parting company with him?

Been listening to the show the past couple of days. Sid takes a lot of HATE calls almost like Neil did. Makes the show interesting.

Sid sounds great. Hopefully, he keeps it together this time.

Sid is sounding better than ever on QAM. I've always been a fan but it seems like he's taken it up a notch. And while I haven't enjoyed the Dolphins this year, I have enjoyed him and Danny Kannell on the Dolphin post-game show. I'm still trying to figure out why Sid left (or was asked to leave 790). I guess it's just radio.

Sometimes, things just don't work out -- that's what happened with Sid and 790. There was a difference in philosophy. I may be very biased as his friend and Webmaster, but in retrospect, this all turned out to be a blessing. I never realized how good a station QAM really is. And quite frankly, I think Sid has done much better here than at 790. People call his show on QAM -- it's next to impossible to get through. That was hardly the case at 790. He and Eisenberg work very well together. On Monday nights, though I understand a lot of people are still watching the football game, he and Kevin Rogers have a great show together.

Of course, the irony of it is that K-Rog and Sid are both 790 casualties. I've read this before, but if Lebatard ever makes the jump to QAM if the opportunity arises, I'd say QAM would have one of the best lineups in the country. As a resident of New Jersey, I know I listen to QAM now -- in the car and at home -- much more than I do WFAN. That speaks volumes of the overall quality of QAM's programming.

Biased for sure. He does sound good on QAM, but please.....Rose and Mandich are unlistenable. Biased yes you are, WFAN and 790 are still better stations overall.

Agreed 100% on that.

I love Mandich but I'm a FinFan. He has great access to the Fins. Don't know what you prefer.

It's interesting though that Mandich hasn't "won" a book in forever and yet they keep him on in spite of him bragging about how many Green Lizzard's he consumes plus he is rude to his callers. Wish he would just leave. Joe Bell doesn't have the cajones to get rid of him in spite of his Dolphin contacts.

Not sure I agree about Mandich. WQAM hasn't seemed to have a problem in cutting high paid talent like Hank and Neil. But it may be a moot point with Mandich...he's already announced that he's retiring at the end of 2010. Maybe they'll have 8 hours a day of Sid!!

The real story here is how WQAM - in the month of September - laid another outrid PPM egg. Oh, yes, I see that WAXY's egg smells only a teeny tiny tad less but WILL GUESS that when the demos are reviewed, WAXY is clear winner, which is amazing and anyone connected with WQAM should be ashamed and embarrassed. Rose, Rosenbeg, Mandich, Dolphins, Hurricanes...all of those great assets and you still lose.

Side note on the Neil deal - yes, Beaseley is saving money but you better believe they'd happily be paying the monthly freight if he still got ratings. Fact is, other than about sixteen 85 year old farts, no one was listening to him anymore. Everyone else had a life to live.

Class dismissed.

Heard Sedano mention today that Rose beat them 3.5 to 3.3 overall from 6am-10am. But that 790 beat QAM bad in 7am & 8am. That 790 was tied for 2nd in market Men 25-54 in 7am hour and number 1 in market in the 8am hour. Then followed by saying Rose edges him in a decent battle at 9am. He was soliciting ideas from his listening audience on how to close the gap at 6am where he said, Rose pummels him.

I found it an interesting listen. Simply, because it reminded my of Neil for a minute (sigh).

So, basically mornings are a wash and afternoons are a landslide. If WAXY ever fixes it's middays (which is certainly in major question) then it may be a rough time over at Beasley building.

Here's the most important part of the whole equation - QAM has 5x-6x the monthly billing revenue of WAXY. You guys can pontificate all day long on which station is better according to PPM but the bottom line is that this is a business. WAXY sales is so pathetic, if they ever got their sh*t together, it would be a different story but as long as Howard Davis is the Station Manager, they will continue to muddle through. Don't know what pics he has of Dennis Collins, but how he's manaaged to keep his job for this long is one of life's great mysteries. QAM has big problems too though with Mandich continuing to be under-whelming (to state the obvious) but he is going up against LeBatard who is the best talent in the market. Sid will help the overall station ratings to some degree once his numbers get factored in to the mix...he started sometime in mid-september I think. And all this will all change when Mandich steps away at the end of 2010 (or sooner).

So Shutdown all Sportstalk in the market. What ru saying.

I was responding to postings claiming QAM's superiority over 790. My point is, QAM has all of these amazing assets, a long lis of BIG names plus the Canes and the Fins, they SHOULD be KILLING 790. But clearly are not. As you know, the Miami market is now People Metered. One of the traits of the PPM is that it reacts real well to playby play. So there should be some carry over from weekends to help their weekday numbers. If there isn't, someone should be asking QAM's PD why. If there is, then QAM will be sucking wind come January when football is over.

Speaking of play by play rights - that's the main reason WHY their billing is so much higher. It BETTER be much higher - they have huge rights fees to cover. Those rights fees, especially in this economy, are not at all easy to cover. I agree the revenue is important, but even that is meanignless if they aren't profitable.

\Before Roxy gets his pants in wad - I don't have any idea about 790 profitability...may not be. I think, short term, Dennis Collins can maintain simply because his LITE/Magic combo is so strong. But in time, Lincoln Financial will be asking, "Why?" If 790 isn't making decent ROI at that point, bring out the colon cleanser info-mercials...and THEN WAXY will return to being the most profitable AM station in town!

You're absolutely correct Faraway. Gee wonder where I heard that? I've said it numerous times. 790's overhead is low. QAM's is enormous. 790's sales are pathetic, but QAM has to bill or it would fold like a deck of cards in 2 weeks. Neither model is very good i would say. But, it's obvious 790 has the better product even with a hole in the mid day.

Roxy, don't know where you get your info but it sure sounds like you're a Joe Bell mouth piece. With the rights fees QAM pays to Fins and Canes they better have the higher billing or they would really be in sh**ter. The sea of red is flowing at QAM with all the terrible Bell moves....signing Neil and having to but him out, big bucks to Rose and Mandich...big bucks to Fins and Canes....come on, no shot of profitability under the Bell regime. True, 790 might have some issues and corporate restraints, but if they fix mid-days and I hear they are close to a solid fix, sales will take of itself with it's stronger programming. It still is all about ROI and profitability in the corporate world whether any of us like it or not, and at least 790 under Davis and Collins has acted responsibly in the current environment.

You guys can all believe what you want, I know the truth. Fact is that if you factor in the Dolphins/Canes revenue, QAM is out-billing 790 10-1. Now you can say that they should be crushing 790 in revenue given the fact that they have both major teams in town, and for that your half-right. But as one of you correctly pointed out, there is something called a recession going on out there so the sales revenues are down for the teams from what I have been told. You guys seem pretty smart - do the math.
Also here's another fact that was correctly pointed out...790's sales are pathetic and they have been for a long time. Even when they had a line-up of Joe Rose/Sid Rosenberg/Boog/LeBatard (arguably the best line-up in sports talk radio ever in this market), they were being trounced by QAM in billing. There is no leadership at 790 on that front, and they are clueless. How Dennis Collins, a smart guy, has allowed this ship to be steered the way it has for all this time is beyond me.
Know Joe Bell is thanking his lucky stars 790 hasn't been able to turn it around or you're right, it would be a completely different story.I am not a Joe Bell apologist, he has made some bad decisions (Canes/Dolphins rights fees) and their expenses are very high but he also inherited some terrible contracts (mandich/neil) and these deals take time to fix.
We'll see who's still standing in a year...my bet is QAM
