Simon 98.7 now playing some 1960`s Oldies!

This is a free forum to talk about whatever we wish to discuss... Oldies radio is a HOT topic in the Triad area right now..... Someone will switch soon..... If you don`t like this thread, feel free to start a new productive discusson... However, wht makes you think that you have the right to censor others??? This is a very productive discussion...
 
No my friend, it is a hot topic because alt of folks in e Triad WANT a good Olies station. No offense to Carolina Radio, but he doesn`t currently reside in the Triad area. I know many folks her who WANT an Oldies station. Don`t believe me, come to the Triad and walk around and ASK people about it. You will SEE what I mean. It is a HOT topic....
 
Nope, don't live in the Triad. However, GreatOldies, I would think I have an idea of what's going on due to my countless treks between Raleigh and Greenville, SC. Been listening to the stations there and reading this board waaaaaaaaay longer than you. I have not seen anyone as fascinated with the format on here as you. We get the point.

And, speaking of Greenville, that market has not had an oldies station since October of 2005 and guess what? Nobody ever says anything about there not being one and the people here don't really seem to be that distressed. I should know. Life does go on without oldies.

This is nothing new. Even when they first started they said they played The Beach Boys. I heard "Shout" by the Isley Brothers in the station's early days. 1959!

Yeah...just look at Lawerence Welk - and all the Swing Bands - and the Jazz eras.

Great music - never dies.

But just like Mozart, Lawerence Welk, Swing Bands or Jazz - you don't find any radio stations programming it.

YOU may not. And I want my Lawrence Welk, swing bands and jazz. And swing is not old and tired. Ashton Kutcher is stealing people's cameras and getting in trouble with large men who want to beat him up ... while SWING music is playing.

Wait ... Mozart? Plenty of stations play classical music. Their listeners send in money in most markets. Until recently, the station in D.C. sold commercials but now the music is on a former NPR station. But it's THERE.

Wrong. Theirs is on 103.3. It's brokered part of the time, but most of the time it is oldies.

WOLT is not an oldies station like Goodtimes is talking about. They are very odd, have a limited signal (can't get them 20 miles south of Greenville) and no consistency. I live here, I should know.

5-9am is a talk show.
10am-2pm is an awful sounding country/western show.
2pm-6pm is talking with some beach music and doo-wop.

Weekends are a free-for-all - I hear a Urban show, Jewish show, classic country, just a mess. The only time they play GOOD oldies are from 6pm-5am.

Okay, I was thinking I had read something different.
 
I beg to differ about WOLT-FM 103.3 in Greenville, SC. It has The Bech ob Oldies (Request ) Show weekday afternoons. Beach Bob is constantly being voted by the Greenville News as "best Radio Host" in the Upstate! It also has Bill Drake in th Mornings who is a Carolina Radio icon! The Oldies ar programmed by "Brother" Bill Prather (another Carolina radio legend).
 
Bill Drake produced Jingles in the 70's and is certainly not there.. He was a friend of mine and He's DEAD!
 
WRONG Bill Drake!!!! You are speaking of the KHJ-Califonia Bill Drake. I am speaking of Bill Drake who started out in Wisconsin in the 1960`s and worked in Columbia, SC in the early 1970`s before going to WSPA-AM 950 in Spartanburg, SC in 1976. Bill drake is a Upstate SC Radio Legend! He worked at WSPA-AM until 2006, when he took his morning show to WOLT-FM 103.3. Bill still broadcasts his show from the old WSPA-AM studios in Spartanburg, near the old Waccamaw Pottery Outlet. Don`t believe me Big Ape, Google Bill Drake WSPA WOLT Spartanburg SC. You will see what I mean.
 
Some of the WOLT Time brokered programming needs help, but the main shows, like Bill Drake, Beach Bob, the great selection of Oldies and the weekend Oldies show are great. They do need to get rid of that Country show. The station is still far from being a train wreck. Alot of folks from other areas listen to WOLT (like me) on the internet. Brother Bill Prather is a great music programmer (and a great guy too).

Yea, The Big Ape is back and saying some CRAZY things..... No, I don`t think that he has dried out.... He makes comments aout posts (Bil Drake) and says that the subject is dead! When, actually Mr. drake is ALIVE and well on WOLT-FM. I think that Te Big pe is doing ALOT of partying).

goodtimesandgreatoldies: Do you ever read your words of wisdom before you post them on here? I don't think I've seen as many typos anywhere as I have seen in your recent posts. It looks like you're the one that has been partying too much and needs to dry out. Are you still taking your medication?
 
Sorry, for the recent typos. Actually, it was right before I had surgery (for real). I have been out of commision for a few days, but I am healing well. Still in a lot of pain, though.
