Simon, Globe: AAR will be gone in Boston

ah, now they can return the signals to good use by putting the music back on. AA was a misguided project.

why? I always got the impression it was a money maker for them?

The conspiracy theory has been laughed off but who knows: with that Premiere/CC connection, you might soon hear Rush, Beck, Coast to Coast, and Noory on 1200/1430

And believe it or not the failure of AAR/PT "stations" might actually work out well if some of the half-decent
shows (maybe more moderate views, more entertaining) were to try and get on the so-called "conservatalk"
stations. Even in tape delay. Could, for example, WRKO put Steph Miller at 10 pm delayed instead of
Savage (ratings, I've heard, have been dismal?). How about Ed Schulz on WTKK (move E&B to 10-noon,
get rid of "A Yuk On Every Page", and move O'Reilly to tape delayed later on). Stranger things have happened.
Lib talk fans, you say you want a chance for your shows to be heard. If they're that good, let them get onto
the "big" stations and we'll see how they do.

Standards could make money..and there are at least a few listeners for it, which is evident from the gains
WJIB made when 1430 dropped the format.

How about a "Jamaine" Format ( Urban A/C Jack Mike FM ) ? ???

It doesn't matter that there are (modest) numbers for Standards. There certainly are people listening, but sponsors feel that the demographic is too old, and out of their target. Their rationale is, unfortunately, why spend money reaching seniors on a weak signal, when spending a little more money will get our spot on a station that reaches 25-54 with 50,000 watts?

WJIB doesn't depend on sponsors and spots in the traditional way, so Bob can keep it afloat, but CC won't run a station the way Bob does. I'm guessing maybe Spanish and/or other ethnic in store for 1430.

some interesting comments at http://ltradio.blogspot.com

>>Formats for several stations have flipped or are in the process of being flipped to in-house syndicated products like Premiere Networks or FOX Sports (which they own).

He points out that barter syndie talk is a cheap format to run but CC needed to better promote it;
sales people were lazy, etc. Who knows.

The bottom line is that you can't survive if you don't sell the format. CC just threw the format out there on two mediocore signals hoping it would find its audience. That's not how you run a radio business. When you got a big FM station in the same market like WBUR which caters to the same demo segment as prog talk, you try to appeal to their core audience by sponsoring events and heavy advertising(TV and print). CC never tried to do it here on any kind fulltime basis. They gave up on the format after 1 year(after AAR troubles began). They had no chance to make it.

Despite WBUR's finance troubles in recent years, they still spend a s**tload of cash on marketing/promotion, sponsorships and selling underwriting because they know who their audience is and how to run the format.

BrightonBoris is correct.

Clear Channel did about as much support as Rich Carberry did for Jay Diamond: ZERO.

Terrible attempt at Progressive Talk designed to fail to appease Bush.

Raccoon might be correct, there's a silver lining here - Schultz could get on a bigger signal.

Guess I'll be listening online.

XM and SIRIUS should not be an option for FREE SPEECH. Satellite in ADDITION to, but not in place of...

I've been listening on line pretty much all along... I got a premium sub for a present and love listening without commercials. And now Mike Malloy is back on Nova M network and the downloads, without ads, are free...

The irony is that the same job posting is on the WKOX site. The same one that sent out emails to the listeners to vote on the schedule changes they already announced they were going to make.

With an inept staff like that, no wonder liberal talk couldn't make it. I don't think these idiots could sell ad time to their own mothers!

"I don't think these idiots could sell air-time to their own mothers?"

Now Fighting Irish...you and I BOTH KNOW that they could plenty of spot time! Just as long as Mom's 'hearing aid' was no longer working! :p

argytunes

Donna H. has said on b-r-i that she's heard the change may be Dec 20 or 21...have noticed a better signal
at night for both signals earlier, perhaps due to 'solar storm', so at least the recep problems will be
slightly alleviated these last few days of the format.
