Simple Minds...QMF???

Don't You Forget About Me .... Simple Minds .....

really????

Don't forget Breakup song! I'd like to see QMF go mostly classic with some new rock thrown in. 107.7 is going to get the people who just want the hits.

I liked the "Everything That Rocks" format that was on WLRS 105.1 before they switched to FM Talk. Would like to see WQMF do that. And don't get me started on 107.7 The Eagle. They are awful!

It probably tested well, which is they are playing the song.

Slightly drifting the topic, did they play that song when it was a current? There is a chance since 96QMF dabbled in pop around that time. Lionel Richie's "Running With The Night" showed up at 95.7 one day and I had thought there might have been another signal due to a skip but it was back announced on QMF.

I couldn't agree more on both points!

Wow, Lionel Richie on QMF? Glad I missed that.

I did a double take on the radio dial when it happened and though it might have been another signal (living in Lexington at the time). But then again many AOR's were drifting pop around that time after CHR's resurgence. Double Q in Lexington circa 1983 was playing "1999" from Prince while calling themselves "98 Rock Double Q".

My favorite Louisville rock station (excluding KJ-100 as it was borderline rock) was WLRS 102.3's Pure Rock 'n Roll in the late 80's. White boy Rock & Roll that dug deep to play those hair band hits that barely cracked the top 100. Still the only place I've ever heard Ratt - I want A Woman.

I don't know why QMF and SF....I mean the Eagle don't play new songs from classic rock artists. Tom Petty, Bob Seger, lynyrd skynyrd, they're all still putting out music. Tom Petty has put out 10 years of great music that never gets any airtime. The Fox understandably won't touch these groups but they would fit QMF perfect.Yet when Skynyrd gets played next, Sweet Home Alabama or Freebird will come on.

Was it when they were running the I heart radio format?
I have noticed that Q95 in Indy running questionable songs when airing CC's
overnight/satellite format.

It's in their playlist quite often. I heard it in my car around 1 PM Sunday.

They added this song about 6 months ago. It was about the same time they relaxed their tight playlist, finally getting away from the disasterous "real" classic rock idea. Yes they still call themselves real classic rock but they re-added Elton John, Billy Joel, U2, Talking Heads, CCR, Rod Stewart, REM, and the Beatles. It is funny that over the past 8-10 years I have noticed many songs or artists that get added, then they never play them again. Just when I think they might make radio interesting, they revert back. Here is a few artists that I have heard in the past 10 years: Jim Croce (they added 3 songs at one time), Quarterflash, Simon and Garfunkel, Soundgarden, Blues Traveler, Lenny Kravitz, Gordon Lightfoot, Al Stewart, Steve Winwood, Alice in Chains, collective soul, INxS, Romones, Blondie, and Dan folgerberg. Yeah that is a wide range. To me, that is a good thing:variety
I'd like to see QMF transition to either a classic hits format or active rock format. WWWY in Columbus switched from active rock to classic hits. So there is no active rock on either side of the river right now. And Louisville does't have a classic hits station. SFR calls themselves a classic hits station but they changed in name only. They still play the same classic rock they did 15 years ago. QMF could keep playing the stuff they do now just either add some new melodic rock songs or song pop/rock songs from the past. It would have to help their ratings.

rjackson, I'd love to see them become an active rock station. They wouldn't really gave to drop any of the songs they play now, just add some new rock as well. I'll add to your list that I've heard Days of the New on QMF as well although only a handfull of times.

Active rock as an over the air radio format is dead. Too many choices for tech aware young men to find that crappy music (in crappy audio quality) on their phones, computers, sat radios and silver fillings with a foil hat antenna.

CC has one in Atlanta 96.1 WKLS (the old 96 rock). 96.1 does poorly in 6+ but does well with non urban teenage males. There is some speculation that CC'c 105.7 / 96.7 (hybrid CHR), goes to 96.1. The Hispanic station (currently on 105.3) goes to 105.7 which covers many more Hispanic households than 105.3, and AA goes on 105.3 which would work because 96.1's current white teen audience is concentrated in the Northern Suburbs.

That Ratt song was probably a result of someone miscuing the cd, lol. It was right before Way Cool Jr. on the disc. I don't remember us ever playing the other one on purpose :) That place was a really fun place to work. Some of my fondest memories are from my time there.
