Please, stop with the speculation on expansion. The league is pretty solid the way it is and if there is any expansion it will probably be in Toronto. This is not the NASL. MLS has already failed in two of the markets you mentioned and the Sacramento/Bay Area is where the Dynamo are coming from.
As for the soccer-mom comment, you'll find that families make up the bulk of MLS ticket buyers as the price is much better than what you'll find in the other major sports leagues which is why MLS regularly outdraws the NHL.
However, as broadcasts go, the MLS has been a disaster on both the national and regional level. Two of the most inovative owners in the league, Kraft and AEG gave up on the Quakes and Lamar Hunt has backed out in KC. If the Dynamo are going to succeed they will need people in the seats. A broadcast deal is not essential.
BTW, I liked the 1836 name. Sorry if part of the population didn't like it. but going with the same logic that forced the name change, then when will the Revolution change their name to appease the English?
