Sinclair in talks to get WSB-TV

And there has been considerable discussion of the radio group being spun off separately.

We are getting to the point where it looks like the only TV based operator of a large group of radio stations is going to be Univision.

I was already aware of Sinclair, Scripps, Tegna, & Hearst not owning radio stations. Cox will sell WSB-TV to whoever the highest bidder is. Clearly, the sale may go down as a money thing and not a "for the sake of the people" thing. It's all about money. How sad. :( If it were a "for the sake of the people" thing, Cox would take the WSB-TV severe weather coverage simulcast on WSB Radio into consideration. On another note, there's another news/talk station I failed to mention that has the severe weather coverage problem. That station is Newstalk 1330 AM/FM 106.3 WLBB-AM/W292EW-FM in Carrollton. WLBB & its sister music stations don't have respective websites. They only share one website, the parent company Gradick Communications' website: http://www.gradickcommunications.com/. They have "Listen Live" links for each station along with links to each of the stations' Facebook pages, but that's it. Therefore, WLBB & its sister music stations are all understaffed. Anyway, that is all.

Not necessarily. We're talking about a family-owned company here, where the heirs just want to cash out. So sure they want to maximize the value, or at least that's what the family's attorneys are telling them. But I would bet there a few of them are also concerned about the family legacy. That's been my experience with large estates like this. So they don't just want the most money, but the most money from someone who will continue the legacy. Certainly Hearst and Scripps understand that.

But the radio stations and newspapers probably won't be kept together with the TV stations. They are all very different businesses, or at least they've become different businesses. As for your concern about weather coverage, that's something that can be worked out separately after the big deals are done. I've seen it done, and I know it can be figured out if all of the parties involved want to see it continue.
 
Almost all radio clusters today have a weather and/or news alliance with a TV station. WSB/WSBB-FM would probably align with WSB-TV, and would still get weather info from them.

I recall from watching ABC 33/40 in Birmingham/Tuscaloosa/Anniston during the April 2011 tornado outbreak, they had a large network of radio repeaters during severe weather, which was most likely much better than any one guy in a radio stdio in Cullman or Guntersville Alabama could have managed.

Total non-issue. Except for Kirk Mellish's job. He's probably SOL unless he can wiggle his way into the TV side, or the Journal-Constitution
