Sirius Dropping Fox News 1/1/06

Sirius and Fox News have been at war since October when Sirius placed Stepanie Miller's show in Alan Colmes timeslot for two nights in what Sirius called an error. Fox retaliated by replacing their audio feeds with a running repeating strip of commercials promoting Fox News Channel TV shows... "on cable."

Sirius execs quickly ran audio from a TV set hooked to cable TV in their offices and literally fed the audio from the cable TV setup to Sirius listeners until Fox turned the direct feed back on.

Sirius executives are said to be furious at Fox, and they've finally had enough and has said, in effect, we're so through with you Fox!

Sirius will yank -ALL- Fox programming from its lineup 1/1/06, but has told Alan Colmes he can take a hike on December 17th, when his show, which was in the middle of the dispute, will be off Sirius.

Miller told Hollywood Reporter, "Fox went nuts." Miller's show will likely replace Colmes weeknight 10pm-1am slot, in addition to her current timeslot.

In my book this gives Sirius a major boost, I'm trying to choose between the 2, I cant listen to fox for more than a couple minutes. And Stephanie Miller is much better than Colmes.

I agree. Although I actually like Colmes's show, I much prefer Miller. It will be great to hear her show in its entirety.

Good riddance!

>> This is a foolish move by Sirius. Not only is FNS tghe most popular cable news service (more than CNN, HNN, MSNBC & CNBC combined), it leaves a huge void in the Sirius news lineup. XM will have all the above, and Sirius is left with just CNN. People come to radio for news, and news choices. If you dont like the slant of FNS ( and all the news services have a slant)- dont turn it on. I believe in the freedom of choice and viewpoints- there wont be after Jan 1 on Sirius.

> I drop sirius 1/1/06 and add another XM.

Remember that those on annual contracts may have to wait to cancel. Overall, I doubt this is going to have a dramatic impact on Sirius. Most people have it for the music channels, not TV audio and talk radio.

I am not sure if that is accurate if you combine all of them. BTW, what draws the major numbers are the opinion/talk shows in the evening.

Maybe they'll add MSNBC.

I don't believe most subscribers for Sirius, in particular, are looking primarily for news/talk. Sirius seems to trying to draw a younger demo than XM with their music channels.

Good riddance to FNC and all their republican cronies, I barely listen to them as is.

If this is true, what will Sirius program in place of Fox?

If this report is true, then what will Sirius do to fill the empty slot?

Personally, I think Sirius is strong in terms of international news (BBC, World Radio Network and Public Radio International) and is about to strengthen itself even more here with the addition of the Canadian streams. (I consider Sirius's strength in international news to be a really good thing, by the way.)

But Fox News (while not one of my favorites, for what that's worth) offers, unless I'm mistaken, more of a focus on national news for us Americans.

News that Sirius will drop Fox begs the question, what will take the place of Fox?

CNN Headline News? MSNBC?

Well, since the departure of Fox News will leave them with only four right-wing channels to one left-wing (it was 5:2 before Sirius dropped AAR), we'll finally get a little more balance with another liberal channel.

Hell, just dropping fake liberal Alan Colmes from "Left" improves the balance considerably.<P ID="signature">______________

Seeing CBC coming into the fold will only help balance out views. I,for one, am excited at the change.

[OPINION ALERT]
Fox News is the public-relations arm of the current administration. Think "Voice Of America", minus manners.

I'd guess CNN Headline News. CNN International would be nice. Or even CBC Newsworld.

Personal opinion, but this is the best news I've heard all day.

Buh-bye, Fox News.

Now if they could just move Alex Bennett over to Sirius Stars where he belongs ...

Yeah, there'll only be "Sirius Patriot" and "Sirius Right" and "ABC News & Talk". No balance whatsoever. :]

buh bye

FNS is hardly news and I dont turn it on.
In fact I don't know anyone who does.

It's ok.. I like Fox News.. so I will just go over to XM... and Im sure many many many others will do the same. I dont give a damn about BBC or Canadian news.. and think CNN and MSNBC sucks.. so no big issue for me. Plus XM will carry the Fox News Talk Radio anyways. See ya Sirius... For those that want to tell me to not let the door hit me on my ass on the way out.. oh well.. it really doesnt bother me.. Ill be happy with my new service... and you will be happy with your old service.

Im one of the one's that actually likes satellite radio for the news/talk instead of the music.. it's nice to be able to listen to news on long drives.
