I had both XM and Sirius and these changes have left me feeling awful. I absolutely hate what has happened. I didn't think anything could ruin radio more than Clear Channel but Mel found a way. He smashes XM and Sirius together and picks the worst from each. Thanks for nothing, Mel. I know on the scale of things to really worry about this is about dead last next to who's going out with Jennifer Aniston but I gotta get this rant out of my system.
I miss Carol Miller and the other voice trackers on Classic Vinyl. Sure, Classic Vinyl was playing burned out songs but SO WHAT! I still love hearing Stairway to Heaven 35 years later. I liked it and I was willing to pay for it. XM's Top Tracks is just gawd-awful with so many songs I won't care to pay to hear. All you get on Top Tracks are Sonny Fox sweepers. Sonny has a nice voice but I want Carol. IMHO half of Top Tracks should be on Deep Cuts. Give me back my burned and fried favorite 500 classic rock tunes. I wanna hear Stairway to Heaven and Layla and Closer to Home and etc etc for another 35 years. If I wanted new rock I'd listen to commercial radio.
XM's 60's on 6 is a like a freaking yak fest Monday through Friday. I appreciate Flash and Terry being live and trying to recapture the sound of the 60's but I'm not 15 anymore. The reverb is so damn annoying I want to toss the radio through the wall. And now Wolfman Jack every damn day?? He's been dead since 1995! At least Bill Rock gave me a wonderfully smooth voice and did some prep work for his 60's Vibrations weekend show. It was voicetracked but again, so what! I'd pick Bill Rock or Pat St. John in a New York minute over Wolfman's gravel voice and constant cackling. Did I mention Wolfman has been dead for 13 years?
Sirius had a much better approach to the decades compared to XM. Sirius on 5 covered late 50's to early 60's. 60's Vibrations focused mostly on 64 to 70. Now with XM 50's on 5 I feel like I am listening to "Your Hitparade" half the time. Give me the gaspipe. Jo Stafford and Elvis on the same channel?
So I canceled XM and because I have a lifetime sub to Sirius I'm going to keep that and listen from time to time when I want to hear the sound of a radio trainwreck. XM and Sirius rescued me from the dregs of over-the-air radio and now that's been yanked. Mel has me in radio hell.
