Siriusly upset with 50's 60's and classic rock channels

I had both XM and  Sirius and these changes have left me feeling awful.  I absolutely hate what has happened.  I didn't think anything could ruin radio more than Clear Channel but Mel found a way.  He smashes XM and Sirius together and picks the worst from each.  Thanks for nothing, Mel.  I know on the scale of things to really worry about this is about dead last next to who's going out with Jennifer Aniston but I gotta get this rant out of my system.

I miss Carol Miller and the other voice trackers on Classic Vinyl.  Sure, Classic Vinyl was playing burned out songs but SO WHAT!  I still love hearing Stairway to Heaven 35 years later.  I liked it and I was willing to pay for it.    XM's Top Tracks is just gawd-awful with so many songs I won't care to pay to hear.  All you get on Top Tracks are Sonny Fox sweepers.  Sonny has a nice voice but I want Carol.  IMHO half of Top Tracks should be on Deep Cuts.  Give me back my burned and fried favorite 500 classic rock tunes.  I wanna hear Stairway to Heaven and Layla and Closer to Home and etc etc for another 35 years.  If I wanted new rock I'd listen to commercial radio.

XM's 60's on 6 is a like a freaking yak fest Monday through Friday.  I appreciate Flash and Terry being live and trying to recapture the sound of the 60's but I'm not 15 anymore.  The reverb is so damn annoying I want to toss the radio through the wall.  And now Wolfman Jack every damn day??  He's been dead since 1995!  At least Bill Rock gave me a wonderfully smooth voice and did some prep work for his 60's Vibrations weekend show.  It was voicetracked but again, so what!  I'd pick Bill Rock or Pat St. John in a New York minute over Wolfman's gravel voice and constant cackling.  Did I mention Wolfman has been dead for 13 years?

Sirius had a much better approach to the decades compared to XM.  Sirius on 5 covered late 50's to early 60's.  60's Vibrations focused mostly on 64 to 70.  Now with XM 50's on 5 I feel like I am listening to "Your Hitparade" half the time.  Give me the gaspipe.  Jo Stafford and Elvis on the same channel?

So I canceled XM and because I have a lifetime sub to Sirius I'm going to keep that and listen from time to time when I want to hear the sound of a radio trainwreck.  XM and Sirius rescued me from the dregs of over-the-air radio and now that's been yanked.  Mel has me in radio hell.

You got that right Jimbo. Im sick of Bill lee already! Bill Rock has a radio voice, and delivery of music by Bill Rock is and will forever be abn A+ in my book! As far as Wolfman, Sweet 16 was one of my faves, living in calif, every weekday i would look forward to terrys show, especially 1960 to 1964,, Broadway Bill lee was at KFRC in the 80s, never cared for his radio! Bill Rock is a much better choice! kenny in Concord

Very positive, aren't we, Kenny? :) but cmon, for REAL -- and i'm gonna do this publicly -- what is your beef with guys like Parker and Lee?? Or with KFRC for that matter?? Inquiring minds want to know... 8)

I don't want to see this turn into a tit for tat with a public spat over Bill Lee. But allow me to genuflect, I have an aircheck of Bill Lee from KFRC and his rhyme is fine for the 60's channel that just got dismantled. He's easier on the ears than Wolfman it appears. However, that reverb from XM is starting to disturb, it's far from superb. Thanks for reading my gripe, for now it's back to the gaspipe.

I griped about the reverb on "60's" on another thread and got hammered for it but I agree that it is totally offensive and unnecessary. I won't listen to "60's" unless and until they get rid of "Motormouth" and kill the reverb.

I like the new 60s channel on Sirius & I love the reverb i wish it was on 24/7 like CBSFM used to have it. As far as Bill Rock He should still be on ch6. It's good Hearing Wolfman but what i would really love to hear replayed is the old Dan Ingram, Ron Lundy & Harry Harrison shows from WABC on CH6. ;D

I'm Glad I'm not the only one dissapointed with 60s on 6,I Liked the presentation on 60S VIBRATIONS much better,I thought the
jocks were better. One thing I do like is hearing WOLFMAN Jack again.
As for 50s on five they have the good jocks from 60s vibrations Pat St. Joh,Jim Kerr, they even gave Dave Heffel from the 70s
countdown show his own shift every week day afternoon. I'm glad they kept Norm N. Nite on weekends.
I;ve noticed 50s on five playing more 60s stuff ,toniight I heard Just Like Romeo&Juliet by The Reflections from 64,
and When The Lovelight starts shining through His Eyes by The Supremes from late 63 early 64,Icould be wrong but I don't think they
were playing that kind of stuff before.

60's on 6 ? Absolutely love it. Better music, better sound, better feel than 60's Vibrations.

Channel 5 does venture too close to the beginning of the decade IMHO. It would sound better playing music from 57 - 63 which at least is of the same genre.

Pell Guy - I am glad to find at least one soul who liked 60's Vibrations presentation, IMHO was more adult and laid back.

XM 60's on 6 tries to capture the 60's feel back in the day and while that's fine from time to time it gets old hearing it day after day after day. I'm not 15 anymore and it's just too frenetic for me now.

Original poster, if you want to hear the same 500 songs over and over again, why don't you just turn on the radio? It's free, and the sound quality is better.

Au contraire, mon frère - classic rock in my part of the USA is dumping the 60's and early 70's stuff for the 70's, 80's and early 90's.

If you just want to hear the same songs over and over, you might want to consider an iPod. As for DJ's, I like hearing people actually having fun on the air. I want more than "That was...This is...".

The problem here is they are XM playlists and the sirius subs are used to the hits! You think FM radio would survive playing B-sides all day long?Or even the majority of B-sides? Sirius is DOOMED even more now.
Im taking mine out of my work vehicle.

I agree that 60s on 6 has way too much talk. I also disagree about Broadway Bill. I usually listened to WCBS-FM (streamed) mainly for him. I was about ready to dump SiriusXM until I heard Broadway Bill today. He's not obnoxious like the guys on Monday - Friday with the reverb and yap. He knows when to talk and when to shut up and has great humor. As far as Wolfman Jack. I liked him when he was really..really alive. Let him RIP.

The above goes to the great dilemma for sat rad. Some subscribe to escape the boring playlists and formats of traditional radio, others want the music they get on the radio and only subscribe to get away from chatter and/or commercials. I love sat rad for precisely the reason that I love all the music I don't get on the radio and I love the "stationality" (presence, flavors, themes of the stations) that is unique to sat rad. This afternoon on 6os on 6 I heard a pile of songs I hadn't heard anywhere for years; midcharters that FM stations are too afraid to play. And the DJ seemed to enjoy sharing this stuff. That's what I've always loved about RADIO, and is missing now from commercial radio. And if they play a song I really can't stand, I have a couple dozen other favorite sat rad stations to explore. I shouldn't say this too loudly, but I think my subscription is worth twice what I'm paying.

I'll agree that people tune in for more than just music. The listeners love their music but they also want to know they're sharing it with someone who loves it, too. Just think of all the people who have called a radio station to request a record that they own. They don't just want to hear it. They want to share it with the world! That's the kind of buzz I hear from the jocks on the various streams. They sound genuinely excited about the stuff they play. Maybe it's an act and it's voice-tracked on some channels but it works for me.
