Six Flags pulls advertising from Project 9-6-1 after morning show comments

Does anybody else think this may have been just a lame attempt to build street cred as 'shock jocks' or otherwise grab some publicity for their weak morning show?

I sure do. Clear Channel's corporate environment always encourages young people to develop street cred as shock jocks. It's one of their trademark methods, because they are a progressive company always looking for the content edge over the competition.

Yeah ... that must be right.

That's why they're firing so much street cred "talent" and replacing it with ... Ryan Seacrest ... in market after market. (With more to come.) And don't count out Elvis Duran. And Elliot in the Morning, too.

Yep, progressive, alright.

I doubt anyone involved in that church trip to Six Flags listens to 96 Rock (does anybody?). The group was from South Carolina and something tells me they would be more likely to listen to V-103.

Sure it was a terrible thing, but is the station broadcasting to the 50 people on the church bus or the five million people of Atlanta?

Yes, I'm coming out in favor of mocking decapitation victims. America needs more of this kind of fine broadcasting.

It may cover 5-million people, but it reaches about a busload according to the newest numbers just out ... welcome aboard! Seats are open in the rear. Plenty of room.

Regardless of whether the people from SC were listening or not, this was in bad taste and they used poor judgment! If they're allowed to get by with this, then the next time it could be one of your or my family members and how would it feel then?

I kept waiting for the new radio spots.

More flags. More blood. Six Flags.

The simple truth is the advertiser was offended and unfortunately that is all that matters. SO you can discuss whether is t was in good taste r not but the advertiser did not think so and pulled their ads.

RTibbs you hit the nail on the head. It doesn't matter whether or not they pissed off a busload of South Carolina churchgoers, or even half of Atlanta.

They pissed off the advertisers, and if there are any people out there in radio-land who think it's okay to make your advertisers mad, then you will never understand radio.

Whether you like it or not, advertisers do really matter.

The advertiser may well have a policy of pulling ads when any untoward event happens. Delta ad schedules used to carry the disclaimer, in the event of a reported airline accident, theirs or another carrier's, their ads were to be immediately suspended TFN. I don't know if they still do this or not. They didn't subscribe to the 'no shcu thing as bad publicity' theory.

AMEN! I heard the whole bit on the air (both days). I didn't find it offensive at all. I thought it was pretty hilarious and even informative when the biotrauma guys were on. Admit it...you know you thought many of the same questions, you just didn't do it live on-air. Six Flags needs to grow up! No one ever blamed them for what happened or accused them of causing it. It was a stupid move on their part to pull off a core demo station when in reality it was great free publicity for them.

Just as Six Flags voted with their wallet. I will vote with mine. No more Six Flags for me, Kings Dominion and Carowinds, here I come!

So you won't go to Six Flags because they won't advertise on a lame, low-rated morning show. If all Giant Brian listeners do that, Six Flags could potentialy lose $1,000 this summer.
