Slade vs. Hullinger

I never really cared much for Jeff as a sportscaster back in the day or as the Falcons play-by-play guy, but I gotta say I do enjoy his newscasts. He's sounds very comfortable behind the mic and has a nice delivery.

Slade's style is better if they are going to stay serious in the morning drive, but you haven't heard Bob Coxe cut loose. If you remember him from WGST, he is funnier than Hullinger and smarter than just about anyone in radio. If you let him be himself, you'd have a great morning show.

But I do like Hullinger...my question is, how did the stodgy WSB let him be so loose on the air?

Bob Cox is intelligent and witty......he would also be a good fit.
WSB has several on the news staff who could take Slade's place and never miss a beat. Mike Kavanaugh(sp??)does a great job also as a fill-in.

I agree play-by-play was NOT his thing, but he does sound really good doing the news casts.

Tom Hughes blows both of them away. It's too bad GST's stick never allowed him to compete on a level playing field with Scott Slade. It would have been an interesting battle. Even when GST shared the 105.7 signal, I believe Hullinger was the morning man during most of that time.

i like slade and hullinger.
different approaches.
i ran hullinger's board as a fillin at gst.
i wonder if he still gets those screaming calls from fox 5's gm.
no wonder he sounds happier.

Didnt like Hughes.. He was too stodgy and not at all even funny. He sounded old and tired.
Slade is great, and Hull man is the way to go for news delivery.

I like listening to Jeff in the mornings. His energy and spin on the news is great. Slade is good too. I'm waiting to see what Herman Cain means and I wish Boortz would do more Atlanta talk and less of syndicated. I know the $$$ is going national but I wonder if that hurts him these days here.

Tom Hughes was hilarious - IF you understood his style, which is NOT southern. His witty remarks had me giggling as I lay in bed, delaying the start of the day. Jeff Hullinger has a similar talent with his delivery, a little more energetic than Tom. Slade, unfortunately, just reads whatever is put in front of him. I'm enjoying Bill Bennett on 920 WGKA now.

Are you comparing Slade to the great Ron Burgundy? Stay classy.

Slade may "just read whatever is put in front of him", but he's usually flawless. He’s a real pro with a smooth delivery, but I see him as straight news while Hullinger is the lead.

There's no point to listening to Slade for more than 30 minutes... there is virtually no change from segment to segment (except maybe the endless teases that take longer than the stories). If you want flawless, you can get some Microsoft voice product to read the news... I would prefer some personality & wit -- something sorely lacking in Slade's performance. He was fine when he was the traffic guy --he'd probably be fine doing the news -- I just get bored listening to him as the morning "personality" -- as much as I hate CC, I'd rather listen to Randy's "Morning Drive" on gst than Slade.
