Slick Moves

In case you missed it....

http://www.radio-info.com/news/clear-channels-newest-senior-vpoperations-are-brian-olson-and-kevin-legrett

Kevin Legrett is expanding his Clear Channel Rochester empire. I don't see any specifics, but you've got to believe that Syracuse and Binghamton will come under his purview. Somehow, this doesn't sound like good news for any long-time managers there. Could there be another round of cuts coming from Clear Channel?

There's also the question of market realignment, and determining which are majors and which are "regionals". CC apparently plans to have three Senior VPs reporting to Matt Martin, the President of Regional Markets. Legretts reach could extend to a third of the country. That'll earn him some frequent flyer miles.

To me, it's just another reason to be thankful that CC isn't in the Buffalo market. My guess is that Rochester's about to become a hub...

See what happens when you make assumptions?

More on the story in Taylor on Radio Info from the other day...

Tom Taylor also told us:

Matt Martin is the new President of Regional Markets, and the EVPs reporting to him are John Rohm, Brian Olson (just promoted from Miami market manager) and Rochester-based Kevin LeGrett, also just promoted. John Rohm’s programming right-hand man is still Rod Phillips. Brian Olson’s chief programmer will be Carl Anderson. LeGrett’s partner is Jon Zellner.

If you're not familiar with Zellner, here's a quick look:

My favorite Zellner quote from the article?

There has been a shift in the view of our company both internally and externally from "clusters of radio stations" to an "integrated national media and entertainment company with local engagement."

So, nationalized content with "local engagement". Scary, huh?

Yeah, local engagement... they always mention the name of the city they're broadcasting from at least once an hour... :D

Engagement must be the new power word for radio execs. The same word was used in Merlin's (Randy Michaels) decision to mercy kill the under-performing News stations in New York and Chicago.
"Effective immediately, Alternative is back on the air in New York as New Rock 101.9 and Adult Hits are on the air in Chicago as i101. It was a difficult decision to make, but after a year of minimal audience engagement, coupled with the format's inherent expense, I felt it was time to make a change. I'd like to thank the people who poured their heart and soul into the effort and I wish them all the best."
Translation: Our news format sucked so bad, we're killing it and returning to a format that will at least get a 2 share.

Tom Tiberi is having plenty of fun weekday evenings on the Mighty 97 Rock.

Crack one open for me Tom!
