Smerconish Leaving For Satellite Radio

Smerconish will vanish into Satellite's black hole as others have

He's not very noteworthy now, making me wonder why this thread attracts so much interest.

Maybe he is not noteworthy as you view the world.

Obviously, there are other people who consider him noteworthy enough to want to talk about him.

"Everybody to his own taste." said the farmer... as he kissed his cow. [John Hammond ca. 1972 ]

He was getting facetime and fill in time on MSNBC, while not FOX, has better ratings than CNN now. Ed Schultz said he was going to weekends on msnbc, so I wonder who takes his msnbc slot? I haven't seen Smerconish there for a while.

Chris Hays who hosts Saturday And Sunday Mornings is taking the 8pm M-F slot for Schultz. and Smerconish was guest hosting for Mathews a week or 2 back, and is on News Nation with Tameron Hall as a panelist at 2pm a couple times a week

It was announced yesterday that weekend host Chris Hayes would get Schultz's MSNBC show.

Also yesterday, WPHT in Philadelphia announced that Smerconish would be replaced on their air by frequent Hannity guest Dick Morris.

WTG WPHT go from a Liberal host to a conservative wacko in Dick Morris

Here's an email I just received from Michael Smerconish - okay, not personally. Allow me to break down the spin of the tease of his next foray in radio:

"SiriusXM continues to bring you exclusive and unique programming."

That's because another host doesn't have the chops to succeed in terrestrial radio!

"Veteran broadcaster, Michael Smerconish, one of the most successful syndicated talk radio hosts, rare independent political voice, leading political commentator and bestselling author can now be heard exclusively on SiriusXM."

If he was such a "successful syndicated talk radio host," how come he pulled out with less than a hundred affiliates?

"Smerconish's spirited discussions of government, politics, and current events are without a predictable left/right bias."

The same "predictable left/right bias" that exists in syndicated talk radio that has forced Smerconish to move to satellite radio in the first place!

"The Michael Smerconish Program, this new live, daily call-in show, will expand Smerconish's depth and breadth of topics beyond the restrictions of local radio formats by bringing you refreshingly independent politics!"

It's not really a "new live, daily call-in show" - it actually existed for several years, but apparently, nobody was listening!

Is this another joke post?

The quotes need more background-foreground contrast. Orange on grey was a bad choice.

Smerconish will vanish into Satellite's black hole as others have -- unfortunately.

And make a ton of money doing it. I don't think he cares about having a huge audience. Sirius has a knack for overpaying "names" and burying them. This is just the continuation of that policy.

I wouldn't called getting paid to do things the way he wants on a national platform "losing."

Liberal talk is a bad bet.. He lost the bet

Smerconish doesn't do "liberal talk".

Why do some insist that if you're not doing far-rightie talk, then you're doing liberal talk?

MOST people have varied opinions, depending on the issue being discussed. That's Smerconish.

Talkradio hasn't been saved by extreme ideologues, it's been poisoned by them.

No, he does "Smerconish talk". Everything is about him and his self promotion. Ask anyone who has worked with the guy, he's unbearable. This "unbiased moderate" shtick he's doing now is nothing more than career triangulation. And it worked in the sense that he got a good payday out of it, despite not having listeners.

And that makes him different than most of the super-stars of talk radio.... how?

A casual observation of the talk-radio stage reveals an entire tribe of people wrapped up in being full-of-themselves and self promotion.
