I wanted to see that for myself......and was happy to hear Don return once again to SNL.

Now when he finally does retire.....the big question is "Who'll replace him?" I believe that Pardo was among the last of the great NBC staff annnouncers.

It didn't sound quite like Pardo...and I'd read that Will Ferrell used to sub for him unannounced, sometimes even recording the intro...so I wonder if that was actually Ferell on tape, rather than Pardo in studio?

Someone said that Pardo was listed in the credits. If he sounded different than maybe he is on tape. He was talking about retiring at the end last season. So perhaps there was a meeting of the minds where Pardo agreed to still announce as long as he doesn't have to leave his house.
 
This episode gets a Thumb Down from me. Hardly anything funny. The biker chick segment was horrible. Probably the only thing that will be positive about the F-Bomb being said is hopefully SNL won't try to do another biker skit.

No, that was Darrell Hammond who used to impersonate Pardo unannounced when Pardo didn't make it to NY from his home in AZ. And, as we've already mentioned in this thread, Darrell Hammond is no longer with the show.
 
At least one article says Hammond is still available as needed, he just isn't a regular anymore.
 
The thing about "Saturday Night Live" is that while they like to pretend it's been running uninterrupted for almost 35 years, in truth the show has essentially been "cancelled" four times: 1980, 1981, 1985, and 1995. Each of those years when the show came back from summer hiatus it was, essentially, a brand new show. The first three times there were changes of producer and near total changes of writing staff, and in 1980 and 1985 there were complete changes of cast. (There were a few holdovers from 1980 and 1994 the following season, but only handfuls.)

This time, "Saturday Night Live" has held onto its producer for 24 years and only had incremental changes in cast and writers over the past 14 seasons. That's far too long. Even the cast usually seen as the best (the first) only ran for five seasons.

If NBC were smart, they'd take advantage of next year's 35th Season to flush everything and start fresh. New producer, new writers, new cast, new theme, new set, whole new direction again. Let the show reinvent itself like it has before and breathe some new life into it.

I don't think NBC will do that until at least 2012, I believe that's when their current deal with Lorne Michaels expires.
 
Well, wouldn't you know, Hammond just showed up on Weekend Update tonight in the guise of California Gov Arnold Schwarzenegger. It was an ok skit. Update itself wasn't too bad. Host Ryan Reynolds wasn't horrible. Last week's F-bomber was part of the opening intro but I'm not sure if I've seen her. Madonna (who was one of Letterman's guests earlier in the week) showed up in a skit with Lady Gaga who was the musical guest.

And Don Pardo (or his voice) was there for the show intro, the Update intro, and the announcement of next week's guest. He could very well have recorded that from home and mailed it in.
 
An update on the show: Scarlett Johannsen also showed up in a skit and was on-stage for the goodbyes. Hammond was not on stage for the goodbyes but was mentioned by Ryan Reynolds.


Not a bad show. There have certainly been worse.
 
That opening skit with Obama was terrible. Worst impression ever. The guy (don't even know the actors name) didn't even try to change his voice. Then during the monolouge I just shut off the TV. I'm not even familiar with Ryan Reynolds. I really think the bad Obama impression made me lose interest in even watching the damn show. Best thing I heard was Pardo back on the job. It really looks like he's going to stick with this gig until he drops off the face of the planet.

I think I heard this on the East Coast feed...

While Lady GaGa was performing "Paparazzi" sometime between Midnight & 12:15am ET, she sang a line in the song: "snap, snap to that s--t on the radio". Possibly the "s-word" was somewhat muffled/masked/replaced by Miss GaGa but definitely not edited with the usual audio dropout expected for a curseword. I checked the original studio version of the song on YouTube, that's definitely the unedited lyric. Any other folks hear the same thing? Or did she substitute a similar sounding word? Was it possibly edited for the Mountain/West Coast feeds? Inquiring ears want to know!
 
well Ryan Reynolds was in" Two Guys and a girl and a pizza place" on ABC a few years back.
